Price of Over or Under TD

Price of Over or Under TD
After a lot of searching I still havent found a clear estimate of how much having a custom true dual system fabbed up will cost. Maybe someone can help me out. If I were to show up to the exhaust shop with all the mufflers and X and flanges, etc, what could i expect to pay for an under axle? Over axle? We're talkin crush bent 2.5" (this shop doesnt have a mandral bender)
I am going to go by the shop next time i am in town. I wont bother if everyone thinks it will be a $500 bill.
If the labor and pipes are more close to $200 or $250 then maybe.
Thanks!

It all depends on the shop. And how familiar they are with ls1s. Fbodies have tight packaging contraints. Lots of shops charge more for this. You're not going to get an over-the-axle for less than $500. Even if you have all the parts, $500 would be an average price.
For under-the-axle, I could see $250, if you have the parts. Best bet is to talk to your exhaust guy first, and talk to him about fbodies and true duals. See what he knows and doesn't know. THEN talk about a solution, and go for an estimate.
I would do this for at least a couple exhaust shops, to get a comparison. Also post in your regional forum for people who have had exhaust work done by specific shops. All the exhaust work I have done on my various cars were from places where I got a reference from someone who went there.
It wouldn't be outrageous to get an estimate for $600-700 for custom duals over the axle, if they are good, will fix any problems, and mandrel bend.

Wow. Well, maybe i am in for an under the axle job. But, like you said, i need to talk to several shops first. Another thing that i did was putting together a word doc. that has all kinds of pictures of other peoples work that was posted here. That way when they say "under the axle is the stupidest thing i've ever heard" i can show them plenty of cars that have it done. Maybe under would be more fun, especially if the pipes were wingnutted on.
I was thinking of going with an X pipe from Summit,Dynomax Part Number 88327 $42.39. For a budget should i just have them make one, or maybe an H pipe?

A Universal kit will prob be better. Do you have a pic of the kit you were thinking of? I would make sure it's a "volumetric" xpipe. Not something that is small...for instance, the Dr. Gas Xpipe is volumetric, it is twice as big as a single pipe, like 2 pipes put together. Some universal kits are smaller than 2 pipe, more like 1 1/2 pipes.
Xpipe will scavenge better, more power and tq than a hpipe.
Good idea about the word document. That should clear up any confusion, but be careful not to insult any of the techs.

I got my duals all the way from the headers and under the axle for $500 tips includsed, i provoded the mufflers.
Over top is pointless IMO because even with an under setup the lowest point of the exhaust is still up by the headers and the x junction.

I was able to find a place in town that's willing to do true duals from the manifolds (yeah, no headers) to the back, with cats, xpipe, mufflers, over the axle, and tips for $525.00.
I would be providing nothing.

I brought my bullets, cats, and tips to the exhaust shop. He quoted me 550 for over the axle x-pipe setup... So if u already have the x-pipe and mufflers etc... u could def do over the axle for 500. do over the axle, u wont regret it. I love mine.

wow exhaust shops around the country are greedy, lol. I got my headers back 2.5" x-pipe over the axle duals INCLUDING mufflers (1 chamber flows) for $300 total. I took him my car, he did supplied everything and did all the labor, and I picked it up with over the axle duals for that price.
