Default SLP MAF sensor question

I have a 2000 C5 and I was going to descreen my stock one but came across this piece. Is it worth it or not.

Eh, most people here would say no becuase the stock maf is capeable of supporting somewhere around 500 hp I believe. You won't gain much by going with an aftermarket maf. Spend the money somewhere else on something that will yield you much more of a gain.

Don't descreen the stock MAF. An SLP MAF is alright, but you'll have to get the car tuned for it.

A tune is always good. Even on a stock car. Get headers, then get a tune.

I'm not sure really, a few hundred I imagine. I'm one of the lucky few who has a friend who tunes my car for free. My car was tuned when it was stock and each time a single mod was added. I even have a speed density tune. Getting a tune on the dyno is the best way because they'll be able to log your air/fuel. Or you could get wideband instead.

Throw that thing in the woods. Seriously, that's not how the proper way to tune our cars.

I suppose you don't have to get a tune, but you probably should. It depends on the MAF too. Some are worse than others. I saw one particular car gain 60hp when the dude got rid of the aftermarket MAF he had (I forget the brand now). Not even a tune could get that one right. I understand the SLP MAF is a good choice because you can solder on a resistor and make it work properly without a tune. But, you'll have to research that. I got tuned instead.

As long as there is a gain is my only concern. If its worth 2-3 hp to ground then thats 180 dollars well spent to me. I just dont want to move backwars HP wise. I havent had anyone chime in and say it causes HP lose so I am going to get it I think. Thanks again for your help everyone.

^Wow, you must have alot of money lying around to spend 180 bucks on "2-3 hp." I'll spend it somewhere else, to each his own though, as long as you are happy.

Think about it like this then. If you swap to an LS6 intake over a stock ls1 then you will spend about 420 or so for a good 11-15 HP. Well for 180 bucks thats not bad bang for the buck ratio. For a FAST intake your gonna spend 700 and get 11HP more over an ls6 and thats still not that bad HP per dollar wise.

Then again, most people don't stop modding until they are at 500+ hp

shouldnt need a tune with an slp maf if you dont have an ses light on related to the maf. the pcm adjusts for minor intake and exhaust changes on its own by adding more or less fuel, thats why you have a maf and 02 sensors

Chime! I found mine not to be helpful. Let's do this. You send me $90. You'll save 1/2 and the weight savings from not having $90 in your pocket will approximate the gain from MAF switching.

The only real problem I am having is that no one can actually say for sure that it hurt their car. People say its very little gain to no gain at all if any. In my mind its bigger and flowing more air and will not whack out my PCM so I know that if you increase air flow you increase power and you shouldnt need a major overhaul with a tune to make it work. If you do no one that has put it on their car has said otherwise. I know every car is different but the worst comment ive heard so far is no noticeable gain.
