Default Pacesetter collector-ORY?

Just wondering what you guys were doing to connect your collectors to the ORY? My header install is coming up in a few days and I was thinking of welding the collector to the ORY, but ive seen alot of pics were people have been using band clamps. Which would you recomend and why?

I cut 2 slits on each side of the y-pipe. then put them on header collector and used band clamp. fit great and sealed up nicely

Seems band clamps are most common, is there anything wrong with welding them?

Has anyone here welded theirs, or is everyone using clamps?

I'd use the band clamps. If you ever decide to swap anything out it will make life a lot easier. Welding is a more "permanent" option.

Band clamps for sure. Welding means cutting later.

Can I pick those up at a auto parts place auto zone, etc.. or do they have to be ordered from somewhere? I was supposed to do my header install yesterday but the weather screwed that one up. So the plan is to go at it this weekend, im just tryin to do everything right the first time you know? Thanks for the feedback.

i got mine from NAPA i believe i paid $8 or $12 each. i thought about welding them too,and glad i didnt. one of my cats blew out the exhaust so i had to take it down and clean it out. yesterday i took the SS for a ride and thought i had a rod knocking. nope was a chunk of cat floating around in the exhaust and making a rattling sound. gonna go take the y off again and completely go thru cats back for any honey combs flaoting around or wedged.

Get a couple "lap joint" style stainless band clamps if the collector fits inside of the Y pipe piping...they're like 11 bucks a piece. They're convenient if you ever need to remove it, seal well, look nice, and won't rust.

I had the regular clamps that came with the Headers but after a while those clamps would get loose and starting leaking. I went ahead and had a shop weld both sides for me. No leaks since...I dont really ever think I am going to take them off, so it's ok for now, I guess.

I also cut some slots in the y-pipe flange and then band clamped them on. Welding is a bad idea for an exhaust system especially if you ever think you'll need to drop the trans. Always leave at least 1 joint where you can separate the exhaust or you'll need to cut it.

What do you mean by cut some slots? The collector goes inside the ORY whats with cutting slots where the collector meets the ORY? Better fit?
