Under Drive Pulley Installation

Under Drive Pulley Installation
Who has experience with the installion of the underdrive pulley (Harmonic Balancer)? The factory shop manual say a special tool is required to "push" the new balancer onto the crank snout and that the bolt installation is a 4 step process. The instructions that ASP sends say "lube shaft and install". That's a big difference in the procedeure. Is a special tool required or can I use the crank bolt to "push" the new balancer onto the crankshaft? Is a new crank bolt required as the factory manual indicates?

Re: Under Drive Pulley Installation
The ASP pulleys have an area of increased bore diameter sufficient to allow it to slip on the end of the crank and get the stock bolt started to pull it on. YOU CAN NOT do this with a stock balancer <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
Edit: Replacing the crank bolt is up to you, but they're only like $3.

Re: Under Drive Pulley Installation
I just used a rubber mallet to get the stock pulley back on far enough so that the old crank bolt could grab the threads and take over.
Do NOT hit the pulley on the outer ring part!! Tap it in the center.

Re: Under Drive Pulley Installation
I found it very difficult to tap the center of the stock pully without first removing the fans. Use your old bolt to crank the ASP pully on, then replace with new bolt.
