Default Dynatech headers?

Well, I had planned on getting the hooker headers, but since they are still having ypipe problems, I've been thinking about dynatechs. I'll be getting ls1 edit soon, so all the egr and air stuff will be coming off anyways. Does anybody make a mass produced ypipe for them? If not, who has a 98 m6 that could get their shop to make another ypipe ? Also, I was looking at billingsley's site, and saw the 'quick tune' slip on muffler. Has anybody used this? Does it quiet the headers much? I'm planning on not using cats, but I want it to be fairly quiet (fairly=stock exhaust w/ cutout).

i actually had the dynatechs at one time, but now i have the hookers. if you are going to have to deal with getting a y-pipe made, why not just get the hookers(unless you want the 1 7/8 headers) and not have to deal with the slip on collectors. not saying they are bad, just everyone seems to say they leak, and that scared me a bit. but there are ways around that. but good luck with your decision!

They need to be welded or header wrapped to keep from leaking. But they leak ever so slightly its no big deal.I just used RTV coper and let them setup up for a day and that took care of the leaks.Sure I might have to do them periodically but they r beautiful headers and will work even better when I put the stroker in the car

My muffler shop made slip-ons to go over the end of the header collectors, and then I used a 3-inch band clamp to seal them. No leaks here

Basically, the shop used tubing that would slide over the ends of the collectors (they may have used an expender). Then that neckes down slightly to the 2.25 tubes for the exhaust pipes. I used 3" stainless band clamps to seal the part where the tubes slide over the headers. I can try to take pics later after I go home from work.

ATTENTION EVERYONE:

Dynatech has weld-on collectors for these headers. They weld on very nicely, still are very good merge collectors, and look sharp. I have them on my car right now. I did formerly have the slip-on collectors, and these are a nice improvement over those.

For a y-pipe - you will need to get one made, but that is not as big a deal as everyone thinks it is - just have one of the more reputable shops/sponsors on this board get you hooked up on it.

would you have to take off the header to have the collector welded on? are there any pics available??? i am VERY interested. i assume this will stop the leaking.

Looking at it, it looks like it would be much easier to do if you took the header off.

I would post pics if I could get this blanking digital camera to interface right.

Since you need to weld all the way around you would need to remove the header or drop it down.

You also need to grind away some of the header coating around the edge where you need to weld.
