Default Anybody installed the Holley Intake manifold yet?

Lets hear it,

Has anyone installed their Holley intake manifold yet? Any problems? Any tricks?

Installed mine this weekend and it leaks air. Thought it was the bottom cover plate screw heads sticking out to far holding the manifold back from seating all the way. Ground down some of the head equally on all screws, still leaked. Looked at the gasket between the head and the manifold and noticed small but deep indentations in the gasket. Determined that was caused by the washers on the head bolts so we ground the 6 inner ones down just enough to sit just past flush with the head, still leaked. First thing in the morning we are going to check the manifold mating surfaces for flatness and may have to call Holley. Anybody had any problems so far? Thanks,

Mark

Well,

I talked to Chris at Holley Tech this morning, they of course had never heard of this but he did say they would get back to me. Damned if I wasn't surprised when he called back this afternoon, seems Holley left out one vital bit of information on their installation instructions, gonna give it a shot Saturday morning. I already have a base line dyno run for both the LS1 and the LS6 manifolds so we will have a real good idea of what the Holley actually does on Saturday. Stay tuned.

I'm really anxious to see some results from this intake...

I wasn't going to say anything until after we find out if the fix Holley gave us actually works or not. The one little tid bit of info they left out of the instructions was "when installing this manifold you must change out the valley pan bolts for ones with low profile heads or countersink the bolt holes and install flush mounted screws". Holley engineering said the stock bolt heads will hold the manifold off seating by .125". With the manifold gaskets installed and the lower corners radiused by the porters there was alot less gap than that with no gap visable at all, trust me. So Saturday we are going to pull the LS1 manifold back off, change out the stock valley pan bolts with bolts having low profile heads, throw the manifold on and see what happens. Cross your fingers,we should have some good numbers on gains for the manifold on Saturday.

Good info. I'm still waiting for the Holley intake manifold and starting to hate GPs. I could have paid to have the Holley in my hands over 1 month ago.

The plastic LS6 intake is starting to sound good now especially since ls1 edit fixed my !egr.

Seems like they should have included those bolts with the intake. Thats kinda stupid.

Teddy,

We borrowed an LS6 intake for a couple of minutes, threw it on the T/A and gained almost 20 RWHP. You can't go wrong with the LS6. I'm almost thinking of getting one and shelving the Holley. We'll see tomorrow.

First off,
I would like to thank the guys at FAStech for all their help and patience, this has been a real pain in the ***, they stayed with it even when I was ready to buy an LS6 intake and shelve the Holley, great work guys. The fix worked, Sean bought both style fastners, the bolts with the low profile heads and the machine screws and a drill bit for countersinking the holes and gave me my choice of which to use. I decided that since we had the manifold on and off so many times that the guys deserved a break and we went with the countersunk machine screws. Sean countersunk the valley pan bolt holes and James and Matt finished the install. We were finally ready to fire it up, worked like a charm, no leaks. As for the dyno numbers, with the LS1 intake it made 362.7 RWHP/368.3 RWTQ, with the Holley it made 385.1 RWHP/358.4 RWTQ, both sets of numbers are with the converter unlocked and thru a closed exhaust. As you can se we got 23RWHP out of the Holley which should be just about right. The LS6 manifolds are supposed to make + 15 RWHP and the Holley is supposed to make 10 RWHP more than that . Now I need to put a Flowmaster collector and cut outs on it and get a new tranny, this one slips in 3rd gear:o.

So Mark, you ended up dynoing with a LS6 intake and the Holley, and saw a little more gain from the Holley? How much porting was done on the Holley intake?

If I'm reading this right you threw a ls6 intake on and got 20rwhp, then put the Holley on and got 23rwhp but lost some torque?

So you gained 23 rwhp but LOST 10 rwtq over the LS1 intake?

The gains we saw with the LS6 were VS the LS1 and were made with the converter locked and the exhaust open. We didn't have time yesterday to open the exhaust with the Holley installed. The torque loss was probably due to the slipping tranny which is getting gradually worse. The manifold was port matched and only light polishing was done with some clean up at the throttle body mating surface. I think we got just about what we expected out of the manifold, the gains could have been higher with more extensive polishing but you have to remember this is a new product and I was concerned about going to far with it. Cost is also a factor, the Holley is about $90.00 more than an LS6 manifold not to mention the cost of the port matching, polishing and shipping. Again, I think it did what was expected, the gains Holley boasts could probably be acheived thru more polishing. I would have to say that a realistic expectation would be 5 to 10 RWHP over the LS6. Would I do it again, hell yeah somebody had to be the guinea pig.
