Default How to delete p/s in 10min

i read a article the other day at the book store where a guy re-routed his serp. belt where it did not go around the p/s pump. he would drive to the track and swap belts for no p/s with a shorter belt and get better times. then swap back to drive home. has anyone tried this? was size belt works? i think $15-$20 bucks is worth a few tenths at the track

you won't get a few tenths. It's the equivalent of taking out your 10 pound back seat. Take off your a/c belt and use a shorter belt and go around the p/s and you won't get a few tenths

how about just take the belt off all together...

You'll only get 1 run like that...but it has been done..

But c'mon people...for the .1 you'll gain..is it worth all the trouble?

actually, your back seat is worth about 35 pounds which isnt much at all when your considering how much a car weighs, but def. more than 10lbs. Check it out.....http://www.angelfire.com/my/fastcar/suspension.html
its at the bottom of the page. Enjoy

From the weight reduction sticky
19..!Seats, rear
and I didn't even get that much ont eh scale when I weighed mine, I got 12 pounds. The seat bottom aren't more than a pound each, if that. the rear seat belts weighed more than the whole rear seat group. if you notice in the link you posted, it incudes the bealts in that weight. Most people are WAY too lazy to take out the belts and they just remove the seats

When I said back seat, I meant the whole thing including the seat belts, leaving them in would look stupid IMO. If they weigh so much, wouldnt you want them out as well?

Have you tried this before? removing the the p/s pump should reduce drag on the engine that is the same reason people use underdrive pullys, ewp, and smaller pullys to reduce drag on the engine. if i can shave 1-2 tenth's i think its worth the effort.

There was a thread on this just last week, it included pictures of what it looks like, possibly a belt part number, and some first hand experiences stating it did in fact gain some time at the track, granted not much.

2 tenths is approx 20rwhp. I don't have to try it to know that the p/s does steal that much HP

If you mean back seat and seat belts and everything you shouldn't just say back seat. When I said back seat I meant back seat, and it weighs approx when I said it weighs. If you want to include the belts etc then of course it weighs more. I said seat and I meant seat and my weight was right. Tons of people don't take the belts out because if they want to slap the seats back in to carry passengers putting the belts back in is a PITA to the average person who doesn't do alot of car work

No, I understand what you are saying and we just had a differernt picture in our heads of what "removing the backseat" would look like and what would be involved. Is is really worth it to take them out for the 10lbs? Is that going to get you faster times at the track or racing people in the street? That was my only reason of why I meant the whole thing and not just 10lbs worth of padding. I mean, unless you have kids, keeping the entire system out keeps people out of your car and keeps you from having to drive people around. I love the, "sorry, I can only fit one other person in my car," excuse.

I'd like to get 4 matching racing seats for mine. Just for the look. The stock front seats are pretty heavy and it is worth switching, and I just don't like the look with nothing in the back. It's just expensive and not worth the $$$ right now.

I was kinda an ******* and you responded respectfully anyways, that's impressive, thanks. People like you make me feel bad for being one of the people like me. . .lol

haha, dont worry about it. I just laugh at all the drama that sometimes starts here on this site and I dont really like to get involved. It is good to have two different opinions though because it makes for a better conversation, just not when it turns into a shouting match. I would love to put new seats in my car as well, I just have to get to the point of where your at first, except turn that stall into a 9''........

You can still fit people in the back seat with no actual "seat" I rode in my old LT1 and it wasn't bad at all. Still retains the shape of ones ***. :-D
