Default All SLP dual/dual owners inside please...

Well, once again I am changing my exhaust. I’ve had four different LS1 cat-backs now still looking for the right sound I’ve currently got a 2OTL with an ORY which was the PERFECT sound till I put the B1 cam in. After the cam install the exhaust note became louder (good ), but the ORY rasp came back (bad ) That rasp is the reason why I took off my Flowmaster system in the first place, and now with the cam it’s back. So I’m trying the d/d as I hear it’s a little quieter than the 2OTL.

So on to the real question. Are there any tricks to getting the dual/dual to fit right? I put an SLP Y-pipe on at the same time as the 2OTL and I had a few issues with getting the 2OTL to fit right and it still banged a bit under certain conditions. What can I expect with the dual/dual? Are there any common tweaks that I’ll need to know about?

I’m real funny about exhaust. I have a real issue with exhaust that bangs, rattles, or doesn’t fit right. I’m very particular about that stuff, so I want to get it perfect. Any advice?

If I don’t end up liking this system then I’m going custom next time.

I switched over to the dual/dual from a 3.5" Mufflex, and it's awesome! It's MUCH quieter than the Mufflex, and it kills the raspiness you get with an ORY. UPS destroyed the intermediate pipe when it was shipped, so I had new 3" pipe installed w/ the muffler and tips. I also had a cutout installed on the i-pipe just before it turns to go into the muffler. The guy that installed it does excellent work, so I've never had any fitment problems. With a stock-internal LS1 and bolt-ons, the catback flowed just as well as an open cutout. I track-tested it three different times with the same results. Now that I have the cam in, I gained 11 RWHP by opening the cutout. FWIW, the car is putting 380 HP to the wheels w/ a locked converter. The catback is pretty quiet at idle and part-throttle, but it has a really nice scream to it at WOT. I think you'll be pleased so long as you like it quiet.

I have the SLP Dual/Dual. Nice and quiet. Even nicer when I open up my electric cutout and unleash hell

FWIW, I made 414 with my exhaust open and 405 through my SLP Dual Dual. Keep in mind, the 9 hp loss was only above 6000 rpms. It was only about a 2-3 hp loss at 4500 rpms. I like it a lot. Super quiet. No drone. Stealth looks.

It's an OE setup, so fit shouldnt be an issue.

real nice setup. I like it quiet, and I dont have to give up any performance.

Hey Ryan, I have it on my SS and I love it. VERY quiet yet it can get loud when you mash the pedal. I like it a lot.

SLP dual/dual is all quiet but you can run a cutout and get the best flow so maybe that's ur best bet it won't flow better than 2otl capped up... the innard of a 2olt look like a 3" Y pipe in reverse with a 20 degree angle.

Bos and Shooter... Both of you guys have the “factory” dual/dual right? Brian I think you said yours came off another Firehawk and Shooter yours was stock right? I ask because I’ve been told on the SLP board that the aftermarket dual/dual does not use the same muffler as the dual/dual that comes stock on Firehawk’s and optional on SS’s. The aftermarket muffler is supposed to be a little louder (less packing inside).

Brian, I’d like to hear your car soon. Looks like rain again this Saturday though. Maybe I could make it to Frato’s.

I should probably get a cutout eventually. Brian, where did Tom put the cutout?

PSJ you are very right about the 2otl muffler. You can look straight through it, it flows very well.

Mine came off of a 2000 SS...so its the "stock" version...I wanted my cutout put right after the Y-pipe, but the T-Arm was in the way, so I got it welded in the usual spot which is right before the pipe starts to go up towards the axle..

Almost too quiet at idle for me,but perfect otherwise.Still have the drone at 2300-2600 with Macs,ORY & a Dynomax bullet in the intermediate pipe though The bullet lessened the drone but didn't get rid of it.Fitment is perfect.

Seriously though, I wonder how it’s going to sound compared to the 2otl. Everyone told me that the 2otl was going to be pretty quiet too, but with an ORY it’s anything BUT quiet at most rpms...

Ryan,
I heard this setup on Bos's car at Fratos. Man, it sure is quieter than the loudmouth! I could not really hear the cam at idle. It idled as smooth as a baby's @ss.

I wouldn't even be messing with catbacks or Y-pipes with flanged cats if it wasn't for bastard emissions I'd like to just run LTs with a custom X pipe and Borla XR1s...

Hmmm... Hope I don’t end up needing to put the 2otl back on, since I’ve got a buyer for it.

With an ORP, you'll hear it. Everyone knows when I start my car up with grots an ORP. Yesterday I added a bullet to my I-Pipe to make it a bit quieter for my wife and an QTEC cut-out for extra power/noise on demand

FWIW, mine was aftermarket and seemed to get a bit louder after about 5000 miles of use.
