True duals dumped underneath will get you that deep rolling sound. The Y gives it an even raspier sound. If you pay attention closely you can hear the difference between a C5 Vette and an F-Body b/c of the duals on the Y-Bodies and the Y-Pipe on the F-Bodies.

I have pacesetters lt's with the mufflex ory, 4" mufflex catback w/ spintech muffler. the mufflex parts are expensive, but well worth the money. Other than a true dual setup, nothing compares to the mufflex Y and catback.

Going to vote for Magnaflow cat-back system. COMPLETELY happy with the sound of it. Has a very tight, low throaty sound, with zero rasp, like a Ferrari on steroids. Plus, you can't beat the price. I DID, however, cut the tips off 3.5 inches to make it tuck up under the rear bumper to make it look less truck-like.

A cat back alone cant give you a muscle car sound.
Think of the exhaust as a speaker. It can make sound louder or quieter, can change the sound from tinny to deep. If you play rap through a speaker, no matter what system you have you wont get beethoven out.
You need to change what is creating the sound. valve events has a big effect. Therefore changing to a lopey cam should on your list of changes to create the muscle car sound.

you guys do realise none of the old mucle cars had as much lift on the cam as a stock 97-00 ls1 cam....0.498"...and lift is not were you get the lope duration and lsa determine the lope...the largest muscle car factory cam was in the 327ci 375hp engine
it was somewhere along the lines of .450"220 it was a solid lifter cam and had very little lope.....
i love a lopey cam but it dousent take a big cam to make a car sound good....

On the whole muscle car sound thing, you can get in the ball park but an ls1 will never sound like a gen1 sbc or bbc. The LS1 in my camaro and the 355ci sbc in my truck actually have the exact same cam duration at .050" and very similar 2.5" exhaust systems with flowmaster mufflers, and they sound completely different.

What exhaust setups have you ran before?
I will agree that y-pipes suck.

Of course, everyone is allowed they're own opinion, but anyone that is bad mouthing a GMMG hasn't actually heard one. Just put mine on, and considering it's still stock manifolds, cats and 'Y', it sounds freakin' awesome! Mothers cover they're small children's ears. Traffic backs off and those that know rompin, stompin V8's look in admiration. Think 1970 Trans-Am series cars at full throttle and you've got the GMMG.
