I am getting very close to building a set of duals for an F body using a Flowmaster muffler that I never knew they made.
Its a 40 series race muffler. There have been tons of people over the years wanting to do this but the mufflers were so big. Well I found this muffler that is a race muffler but 2 chambers so it should be alot more refined than the single chamber flows.
The muffler is 4"X8"X9". I also found a longer 1 chamber that has a 10" case that should be quieter than the 6.25" case one chambers.
Also check out the short Magnaflow muffler in this pic.

In talking with these guys it seems that the more spintraps inside, the louder it is. So if you want more volume and need to make it smaller, just remove a trap or 2.

No soundclips but hey, 1 chamber flows sound good as is. We all know that msustangs running h pipes and 40 series flows sound amazing.
The specs on the flowmaster can be found here. Im sure that you wont have to cut out your floor with these. You hange them leaving only about 1/4" gap between the muffler and rear seat pan area under the car. Worse case you just BFH that area a little and tuck them up higher.

It's fairly quiet at idle and low cruise speeds then screams with a high pitched whine. I can't get that sound, but I can get close.
BTW, the Tubi company is down the road from Ferrari in Italy and designs all their mufflers for their "patented" Ferrari sound. It's not by coincidence they all sound similar.
The closest sound for the LS1 I found was the titanium(?) Corsa exhaust (Pace Car Edition) for the C5 vette (which won't work on our cars and is way too expensive anyway) and the Spintech catback systems for the GTO. The Borla Stingers are somewhat close.

I already swapped in LS6 valvesprings when I had the heads off. That's a sweet sounding cam right there.
BTW, I'll post pics of all the different exhaust setups I had as soon as I can round them all up. I'll also show you a quick and easy way to shorten a glasspack.

As you know, I like that Spintech sound so I looked through their offerings at what mufflers had the best price/size/performance ratios. The twin cruisers I wanted to get are about $270 pr. which is a lot. The Pro Streets used on the GTO kits are only $160 pr. plus they are compact and I know they can produce that high pitched sound. So I got under the car and YES, I found a way to fit a pair of them under the passengers side floor hump. Both can exit out the passengers side.
Before I order a pair of them I'm going to get just one and add a channel to it's side to route both banks into the single muffler. Based on my earlier experiments having one muffler or sound source sounds a bit better than a dual exhaust so I will try this first and I can always add another Pro Street later on if I want.
As far as flow numbers go the single Pro Street flows the same as most aftermarket rear mount mufflers, so I doubt it is going to be very restrictive.
I also found some more neat Spintech pictures.
Here is a Mustang catback system. Tiny with only 2 spintraps:
SpinTech 180deg methanol muffler
3 1/2" inlet 3" outlet.. length 17" width 10 1/2" high 4"
I think this is the Pro Street with 3 spintraps:
Interesting info on the mustang side exhaust that may apply to the F-body as well.

Is this on an F-body? Have any sound clips? I'm just curious, because the F-body Corsa's didn't seem to have that high pitched sound.

Well, I'm back working on this project again. This time my requirements are a little bit different. I want to make the car super silent like stock, but without all the restriction. I don't think I've seen anybody do it before especially with headers and a ORY pipe as those really jack up the volume. I think the only way to do it is with a really big muffler.

I also found a badass thread on building a dual mode muffler.
Here is the heat riser valve (Oreilly auto part number Murry #150) used to create the automatic bypass effect. Spring open and vacuum closed. Begins to open around 5” vacuum. It is not a sealed closed valve, in the closed position, but enough to do the job.
Here it is mounted on a Warlock muffler.

QUIET MODE: The muffler functions as a normal, triple-tube muffler with a double reverse flow pattern. Exhaust gases flow into the inlet, return forward past the front baffle and reverse direction to enter the outlet tube. Internal tube configuration and sound absorbing technologies keep the “Quiet” mode sound levels at approximately 70 dBA @ idle. In this mode, your car is quiet; inside and out.
OPEN MODE: Pull the “Loud” switch, and a valve inside the muffler opens to allow the exhaust gases to flow from the inlet tube directly to the outlet tube. This was Pontiac’s “Tiger” mode. Sound levels are typically 78 to 80 dBA @ idle in this mode. You hear a lower, deeper exhaust note inside the vehicle and the sound outside is approximately TWICE AS LOUD as in Quiet mode.

I was finally able to get some flow numbers on that large dynomax turbo muffler. It's not as good as I hoped. It looks like the straight through, perforated style mufflers are the only ones that will flow well enough to use on a single tail pipe. I came up with a neat idea to use 3 mufflers linked together. It's somewhat affordable as these polished stainless steel units are half the cost of Magnaflows or $55 each. 5" diameter with 3" core and 14" long bodies. The combined length of the perforated cores is 42" which I really hope should be quiet!
