Default Dipstick tube plug

While installing my headers, I broke the dipstick tube. Has anyone just removed the tube and plugged it? If so, please let me know what you used to plug it. After a short look around the garage, I used a plastic push fastener like the ones that hold up the front bumper right under the front of the hood. It fits great, but I'm afraid it will melt once I start the car. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

I would replace it with a new one, dont want that fastener falling into the dipstick hole.

I agree. Why would you not want to fix this? How are you going to check the oil level?

I don't think there is any chance of the fastener falling into the dipstick hole. It has that big round plastic piece that the push-pin goes into, but I still don't plan on using that. At the very least, I'd like a temporary fix until the dealerships open up on Monday. I never check the oil because I only put 200-300 miles on the car before changing it. I thought that there might be some people who don't drive their car that much who just got rid of it.

I doubt you'll find many people that just got rid of it because they don't drive their car much. Besides, imagine if you tried selling the car and the buyer opens the hood to check the dipstick and it's not there. If I were the buyer, I would walk away quickly thinking what else is wrong with this POS that I can't see. Spend the bucks and buy a replacement or go to a junkyard and get one for a few dollars probably. Just curious, but why didn't you remove it before installing headers? Makes it so much easier with it being out of the way.

I didn't know that you could just pull it out until it was too late. This has been a trial and error experience.

The plastic plug likely won't stay in with the internal block pressure, just a guess though. Just replace the tube.
