The 1$ LS6 intake install...
Well, some of you may remember I bought an LS6 intake manifold for a dollar, and I finished the install the other day. It wasn't without minor issues though.
I ended up ordering the wrong torque wrench at first so I ordered the correct one, so that's the cost of 2 torque wrenches.
I broke the MAP sensor and oil pressure sending unit, had to buy those and the sending unit socket.
I used the instruction from LS1howto.com but I would add a few things to it.
-Completely remove the brake booster line and unplug the MAP sensor before attempting to slide the intake at ALL. You will break one of them if you don't.
-Completely remove the fuel rails before trying to slide the intake out as well.
-You can reuse the stock gaskets, they're fine.
Reinstall was a breeze and went great, my gloss black manifold looks awesome. She found idle after a few seconds and was right on after a few decelerations on the street.
I think the pulls a bit harder in the upper RPM range, but it's hard to tell up here at over 6000 ft.
I think I still got a good deal and a few new tools out of it though. The learning experience was very good.
I did have a little oil in the old manifold.

Buddy of mine with an 02 SS I've worked on in the past and given lots of tech help upgraded to a FAST 78mm, he hooked me up!
Anyways, ASE certified mechanics use torque wrenches as do master technicians. Would you bolt on a new set of heads without torquing them? Why would you do anything less with an intake manifold? I was just trying to make sure the rubber seals actually sealed and I didn't crack the plastic. That's why I bought a torque wrench.

Damn dude you got a SMOKING deal!! Im not knocking you for doing things the proper way by anymeans...but comparing an intake manifold to torquing heads is a bit of a stretch, reguardless i see where you are coming from. Now you need to pick up his 241 heads for a dollar!!

you need a fuel rail tool for that, a 2 dollar tool, also I can not stress enough that you have to take your time disconnect the whole harness first injectors coil pack, egr and map, oil sender, and flop the whole thing to the driver side, then lift the brake booster line over the oil sender. do not forget the vac line also, pretty easy if you take your time, if you do not, I guess you found out, 80 for pressure sender and what, 60 for the map?

What I meant was out of the intake, the injectors, not disconnecting the whole thing.
Yes, you can just lay them to the side.

Both parts from a non-sponsor were around 90 shipped.

why not go rent a torque wrench from vatozone, i'm pretty sure the intake is prolly in inch-lbs but either way you could just buy one off the shelf and then return it,done that many times.
i got the whole calibrated wrist as well
sweet deal tho

I look at it this way, the money I save on labor, I can spend on tools, and have them forever. Am I wrong in saying you can never have too many tools?
I can't believe I'm getting my ***** busted for buying tools by a bunch of supposed gearheads. Jeez.

well your thread does start out "$1 dollar ls6 intake" i'm sure most people coming in here were the ones that are always lookin to keep a few extra bucks in there pocket...
not that i can blame ne of them, i think it comes down to if you would be ever using said tool again, and if you didn't already own it, its possible you won't ever be using it again either.
but nice job on the $1 intake and did i catch thats also painted? they do make a difference, and they make other mods more efficient too.
hell for a dollar even if you weren't interested in the performance aspect, how could you not do it!
