i think he said $300 for the same factory replacement. I think what he was trying to tell me was that I cant put a high flow cat there because of the bolts or something.. I just dont want to get screwed $300

lol...I would not do business with that guy. Right now you can get a good used car for around $65 on here. Is your cat messed up or clogged? Just wondering why you are wanting to replace it.

Take your car to the dealership...they have an extended warranty on the stock cats and you should be able to get it replaced for free at the dealership. You can search on here to find some more info.

basically just pick up a high flow cat, take your car to a muffler shop, and have it welded in place of you old one...

as a matter of fact, i'd probably pick up a pair of them so that you have equal backflow between the banks.

you can find them for pretty cheap, especially on ebay. But I know a few sponsers on here that can get you set up with a pair of them... I hear the Random Technology cats are the best aftermarket hi-flow cat out there, but they are also quite pricey...

do a search for "LS1 - Cataylitic Converter" on here, ebay, froogle.com and a few other places and you might find some pretty good replacements...

oh on a side note, I believe my cat is going bad too. I threw code PO430 Bank 2 Low Threshold Cat or something to that effect... funny thing is, the code was only on for a couple of days and now it's gone... been gone for about 3 weeks now... but my car is running like complete crap... so i figure the cat is clogged up, and for some odd reason the code isn't showing up.

I'm getting Longtube Headers with an Off-Road Y-Pipe in the next couple of weeks... so that along with my SLP Loudmouth catback should get rid of any flow issues i might be having as I will have NO cats, and a straight through exhaust

it'll probably sound like crap too... but I imagine i'll get some hi-flow cats welded in later just to tone the sound down a little bit...

GM extended the warranty on LS1 cats to 10 year, 120K miles. A couple months ago I believe every LS1 owner was sent a letter. Mine said this

General Motors is providing owners with additional protection for the right and left catalytic converters. If this condition occurs on your 2000 Pontiac Firebird within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge.
It says 2000 but I believe every year model got one.
