Default "X" vs "H" Pipe Discussion

Ok guys, I am about to test an X pipe vs an H pipe on a test car. The headers are a set of Kooks 1-7/8" merge (3"). Give me your opinions and well see who get's it right...

The Xpipe will make more power everywhere. Im more curious about power differences with the xpipe vs a 3" to 4" ycollector.

i think h will be better giving they are simlar diameter pipes cause it just seems that the h will allow for the flow to be even without making the exaust flow tuburlant(IMO)

I saw about a year ago where they did this on a mustang using X and H pipes from the same company so the cross over would be in the same place and the H pipe gave it a deeper tone, while the X made it sound more nass car. Also they said that the X favored the top end while the H favored the bottom end. The H gave it more TQ on the bottom while the X game it more hp up top.

Think I know the article. CarCraft wasn't it that did it? It was kinda scewed though if I remember correctly. They had an elaborate pipe diam config for the X-Pipe I think.

Location is going to be the biggest thing I'm sure. I've always been taught that it should be at the hottest area.

Overall I expect the X-Pipe to come out ahead, especially on top end.

I think an x pipe will out perform straight pipe. At least it did on my 98 Cobra. Though it was not much. I picked up about 2hp when I went from straight to x.

Mikey, I look forward to reading about your results...

I'm contemplating a future change to a set of Kooks headers, a 3.5" X-pipe, and more subtle mufflers than the Flowmaster 1-chambers I have now.

Be sure to keep us updated!

And another thing that goes to show that the X-pipe puts out more on the top end is that NASS cars run then and then never see anything below 8000rpm in a race, if even that

The "X" will spank the "H" pipe by a few HP. Just make sure the exhaust pipe is correctly sized!

I have the 1 7/8" stepped kooks and the rest of my exhaust will consist of an x pipe, mufflers and dumps before the axle.

I say that the X pipe will definitely win up top but the cam profile will dictate when the X pipe starts to out perform the H pipe. I personally think that in order to really prove which one is better then you would need a reverse split cam.

I am curious if anyone has ever used termination boxes with an X pipe? I have thought it over and I am not sure if there would be any benefit because the X pipe essentially increases the exhaust volume like a termination box but it also allows the exhaust to use the negative pressure waves from each cylinder bank. Just curious.

I'd vote for a well made X pipe to beat an H. A cheap X pipe may not.
