Ive always had Y pipes on my f-bodies, X pipe on Y body, my question is???

instead of running a x or h or y pipe, why not just run 3 feet of straight pipe off each header followd with a bullet muffler with turndowns?

is there anything wrong with running pipe not connected to each other?

the X or H pipe will balance out the exhaust pulses and smooth the sound out. The H pipe usually makes more torque than straight pipe, while the X will add a lil more HP.

You can run them right off the header, but you'll probably get some rasp and popping on decel. A crossover pipe will really smooth your exhaust tone out and probably pick up some power as well.

X canb e argused to produce more power since it balances out the flow. however a lot of people like the sound of an H pipe better

H for sound, X for performance, no need for strait out.

(X will prolly only give you barely another 2 hp because of how it has a slight vacuum effect)

hot rod magazine (i think) proved that having a balance tube increases horsepower over straight pipes


they also proved taht X pipe adds a slight horsepower gain

i have an H pipe on my pacesetter/dual cat/moroso spiral flow setup, sounds like a totally different car. amazingly smooth, pretty loud, has some drone but not too terribly bad. but i got an LT1, so bottom RPM torque is not a problem for me

An X pipe will produce a more high pitched sound than a H or Y...I have spent the last few months in exhaust system hell building all types of systems for our race truck...X ,equal length X,Y,H and the gains or diffrences have been slight at best... I would say go with ever is simplest lightest and most cost effective

i believe im just going to get a y pipe made to fit the long tubes and then put a bullet on the i pipe and dump it.
