QTP or American racing? help me out guys?
#62
Just got my ARH's from Mike Norris this week, heard a lot about better fit than the QTP's the welds and finish work are very nice, a well designed merge on the y-pipe. I had them do a 3" extention 12" long on the end of the merge unstead of the 2 3/4 stock merge outlet. didn't charge me extra. Very pleased!
Good fit, BEST finish, most power, less money. That's what you get with QTP's.

They pretty much came like that out of the box. All I did was wipe on a little bit of aluminum wheel polish and it made them marginally shinier. It took me only a few minutes, and I did it because I was extremely bored.

A vote for QTP.
I bought a set of 1 7/8 headers with the merge collector about 2 1/2 years ago with the ORY. The quality was outstanding on the headers and they installed beautifully, but the Y was a different story. But, after a trip to the muffler shop, I never had another issue with it. Whats interesting is The headers went on a stock CI H/C motor and I didn't seem to loose any low end. They were installed on the white car in my sig...
A few months ago these same headers and Y were installed on my GF's car(red car) in sig with no issues. She picked up about 20 rear wheel (peak) over a set of FLP's with gains under the curve as well. She is stock CI, H/C too.
I bought another set of QTP's, this time in 1 3/4's, but have never installed them on a car yet. Quality looks just as good as the first set I bought though.

Polished headers are good for show only cars or trailer queens. I highly doubt anyone is going to be crawling under thier cars to make them all nice and purty every time they wash it... That being said as per the two... toss up. Spend a little extra and get a little better attention to detail since the ARHs are new to the market... Or go with the slightly cheaper, get what you pay for here, and pick up the QTPs.

Qtp's suck. They tick at both the merge collectors and leak like crazy. They told me that's the price you pay for performance. Horrible way to conduct business. They do fit great though and so does the ypipe, but it hangs low no matter how much you mess with it.

I'll say that my first set of standard collector QTPs literally fit like a glove; no grinding, clearancing, or anything. Never came close to banging anything.
Their HVMCs were almost laying on my subframe. After speaking with them a couple times I just conceeded to grind a bit. I didn't want to have to pull them off, put the manifolds back on, pay for shipping, wait for them to agree to replace them, ship them back, and stick them back on my DD. I wasn't really given a hard time by them although it would've been nice to have been offered to have a replacement sent to me so I didn't have any downtime. I made the choice to grind and in retrospect it wasn't too big a deal.
I know my brother had a little more difficulty at first because his merge collectors weren't completely welded. After they looked at the pictures of the light coming through the headers and received them they sent out a replacement set as soon as one was available.
I noticed my collectors had some leaks (after looking at my brothers) and used some Permatex manifold repair and even though I haven't driven the car much, the repair seems to be holding and is a LOT quieter than they were. It's hard to tell I have headers on the car because there is almost no tick anymore.
To me, it seems QTP is almost correct in that the way they designed the primaries makes a complete weld nearly impossible. I guess you have to ask yourself if the possible power difference is worth the incomplete welds... I'm not completely sure that's a fair trade-off for $700 headers. I didn't think it was fair for headers that price to NOT fit like butter but I made the choice.

LOL; that sounds a little familiar.
