Isn't the voltage regulator inside the alternator? I had my alternator rebuilt by a local guy back in august and ever since I've been having the problems with my lights pulsing. I thought it was the excitor wire this whole time but I've tried so many connections that should have been perfect and still have the pulsing lights. It has to be the voltage regulator...

Also, I fixed the problem with my headlight and all of the wierd electrical issues. It was the motor gear. It just happened to go out at the same time as I'm trying to fix the pulsing lights.

If anyone having this problem is located in the Dallas, Tx area, I am willing to donate a little time to help investigate this problem. I have 20 years experience working on cars, and 14 professionally installing electronics in cars. I have seen so many posts on this and am very curious about what the problem is. There would be no charge for my time. Only parts if needed.

"fusable link"........

and they usually cause an open but sometimes they only partially burn up and still let some amperage thru causing weird symptoms

I am pretty sure he is referring to a fusible link in the wire. This is a common problem on some cars. The link will get hot but not hot enough to burn into, when there is a large current demand on the alternator. You will find this further explained in a lot of car audio forums.
