I have stainless steel Kooks stepped headers on now. I got them to replace the SLPs a few weeks ago, upon recommendation. I can't post the graph right now, but a 3 pull average with 3.89 gears in a Moser 9 inch, yielded 427rwhp. Not bad. Switched to 4.30 gears which I currently run, and tossed the Kooks in. 3 pull average yielded 439rwhp. Now I'm not sure what kind of power loss I had going to the 4.30s over the 3.89s, but my guess is around 5 to 10rwhp. Correct me if this is too much. But the results were clear. The curves were practically the same until around 4000 rpm, where the Kooks pulled away hard. Torque was carried much higher than using the SLPs, and horsepower was up significantly at 6000rpm and above. Unfortunately, I don't have any track times yet. The BG event will be my testing grounds. I am VERY happy I decided to replace the SLPs. I fully expect to pick up 2 mph and 1 to 2 tenths. Thanks Kooks

 

Wow!! What diameter were the SLP's and what are they for the Kooks? That is a pretty big improvement. Up top, I am guessing the Kooks run away because of the stepping....

as i also plan on swapping out the SLP headers for a set of stepped KOOKs headers for testing and i also plan to test KOOKs merge collectors

what did you use for a y pipe with the KOOKs????

Chef, yeah I wish I had a chance to test them before I swapped out the gears, maybe you can do a back to back test with your setup. I'd like to see the difference.

Nice gains, I'd like to see a comparison over some flp's or hooker longtubes, it's pretty well known the slp longtubes don't keep up w/ flp's, hooker, grotts etc. up top.

im happy with my SLPs... they have very well done their job and im not really convinced that Dynos can prove everything... Id like to try a different header but until I see significant proof that one is actually better than the other im gonna keep the SLPs...

Business has picked up to a crazy volume....yesterday was the first day off I've had in 27 days Haven't even had time to install the junk that's sitting on the shelf much less the cam swap Hoping to make it to SDR in the coming weeks. I'm not telling anyone "I told you so" but I did, Iv'e tested SLP's back to back against Hookers/Macs/QTP's and have seen the same if not better improvement every time. Yes, the SAME dyno being used back as this gentelman did for his comparison IS the only way to go. So figure even in poor atmospheric condiions with a lower SAE correction factor than his last visit would only be off + or - 1-2% worst case but is still above and beyond what LOnSlo's improvement was even with a numerically higher gear ratio, gotta luv that! The dyno difference between 3.89-4.30 should be about 6-9 RWH I think. Good show! and you should gain nicely at the track! Post graph plz .

Thanks Joe. As stated above, I should hopefully be a high 10 second car now, trapping around 125. Top end pull is amazing. One thing to note here. Peak torque was down 2 ft-lbs. That's PEAK torque. I now have up to 12 more ft-lbs in the upper rpm range over the SLP graph. These are the stepped version also. I'm sure the straight 1 3/4" tubes would have a much higher torque peak, but who's interested in peaks; not me.

I used the Kooks y-pipe. Definitely not the best looking. In the future, I want to get the QTP y-pipe, as it has a 4" merge collector into the I pipe. Nice!
