Default Anyone installed an oil cooler?

The search function on this site is a disgrace. Anyway my oil temperature is going up to 260-270. I just bought a Canton Racing Products oil cooler from Thunder Racing, has anyone had any experience with it or any other oil cooler? I'm trying to get some feed back as to what kind of temperature reduction to expect.

I use the MOCAL Oil Cooler with their inline thermostat and -10 lines. Tapped off directly above oil filter using the LG oil cooler manifold that replaces the small stock part that is from factory - oil temp sending unit also threads into this adapter.

Custom mounted the cooler behind the DS bottom opening in the front fascia so it gets direct cool air while moving and is not picking up any hot underhood air. Plus since it is not mounted in front of the rad -it doesn't restrict flow thru rad either. I have a tranny cooler mounted in the same fashion on the PS. Both also have 5-1/2" manually switched SPAL cooling fans.

My oil temps regularly are either slightly lower, or the same as water temps (in my case 180-190deg) - actually have never need to use the cooling fans.

Thanks for the information. I tried to contact LG to no avail, I like the idea of the oil gallery manifold that allows the cooler lines and the temp sensor.

Try the G2 Supercool radiator. It will double your engine cooling capacity and features a built in oil cooler. Keeps my coolant below 200 no matter how hard I run my car in extremely hot conditions or bumper to bumper traffic on 100 degree days. Oil temps are usually 182-209 depending on weather temps and how hard I drive the car. Give LG a call, information is in my sig. Bobby will hook you up.

I ended up buying the Lingenfelter billet manifold for $100. It also has a 1/8 NPT orafice for my oil temp sensor. Had I known this was available I wouldn't have bought the sandwich adapter that fits between the oil pan and oil filter. Thanks for the heads up.

1QUIKWS6 did you mount the cooler in the space where the air pump was? If so did you take out the plastic access to the air pump area and mount your cooler horizontally or did you mount it vertically up against the metal area that goes into the engine compartment? Also what is the size of your cooler?

Yes, I mounted it directly behind the bottom opening in the DS corner of the front fascia - where the air pump was. I removed the plastic for the install, and then replaced it afterwards. I had to cut holes in plastic for the -10 lines to go thru the backside of the cover to get to the cooler. The cooler is mounted 90 deg to the ground (i.e. up and down like a radiator). I bought 1" wide x 1/8" thick aluminum bar stock @ Lowes and fabricated the brackets to mount the cooler - only required cutting/bending and drilling of holes - no welding. Brackets bolt to mounting points on cooler and then under existing bolts underthe car in that area (shoulda taken pics during install, but I didn't).

The thermostat is located along the frame rail on DS toward the front of the engine, but not inside the plastic cover.

As far as cooler size goes - don't remember off hand I would either have to take the plastic back off to see, or find the invoice with the size (2nd option sounds more attractive!)
