Default Electric water pump

Is it safe to run an electric water pump on a daily driver?

I did for a few months, but I don't think I would now looking back on it. The mechanical water pump is probably more reliable on a daily driver that sees all types of weather all year round. That isn't based on hard facts...just my opinion. But I don't hesitate at all to have it on my Camaro now that I have a truck for a daily driver. If something goes wrong, I can afford the down time.

I dont think theres anything wrong with it, but its an expensive mod for a small gain. It doesnt last as long as stated above either.

On the website, it said it was rated at 3000 hours. I figure on the high end at 2 hours per day. Which means it will last a little over four years. I think that sounds pretty good to me. Not 100% though.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't last longer. I'm sure the impeller shaft seals and bearings would. The motor can't be that much different than an AC/heater motor which lasts a long time. The only thing markedly different would be the high heat levels.

It's not that it wouldn't last longer...it very well might last a long time. But unlike a traditional water pump, an electric water pump will generally not give you warning signs of failure (like loud squealing, etc). That's what makes it somewhat of a wild card.

If you can't afford the downtime due to a possible random failure, I wouldn't do it. My EWP leaked out of the weep hole straight out of the box...Meziere took care of it, but that was 2 weeks that I was without my car, and something I couldn't have done had I not had my truck at the time. It has been flawless ever since.

How much did you pay ??

The biggest things that EWP's do especially when coupled with a U/d pully is let your engine build rpms faster. They do this by reducing the parasitic drag on your motor. Last but not least, besides the few hp/tq they free up you should see (I know I did) a big improvement in your Highway gas mileage. Not so much in your city mileage but some was observed.

I must say I am very happy with my Meziere water pump. I got it to make sure the 402 didn't overheat during scorching Texas summers. I don't think the engine gets above 170 degrees per the diagnostics I've seen.

$579.99 How hard is the pump to install? Where do the electrical wires connect to? Aslo, what kind of ud pulley would you recommend along with the ewp?

Meziere recommends a relay rather than a direct connection for the power connection. Meziere sells the relay. They will give you a schematic, but look at connecting a wire to the starter motor for power. The relay is a small electrical component not much bigger than a USB thumb-drive that is mounted in the engine compartment. ASPRacing.com sells lots of pulley combinations. Many consider their products the best on the market. I know their customer service is very good.
