So, just did the Home Depot "Husky Red" catch can mod, along with a new pcv valve

Home Depot "Husky Red" catch can mod (Now with Pics)
figured since I was going to be doing the PCV valve to begin with (it was long over due I suppose), I may as well spend the $25 and get it done...
lucky enough for me, the Home Depot I went to had two versions, the older one (thinner tube, not much packing inside) and the newer one.... they had different elements but I guess the newer one flows better than the older. I spent $25 total, including a 3 ft length of 3/8" hose, 2 3/8" hose adapters, and a pair of 3/8" to 1/4" NPT reducers since I couldn't find the damned 3/8" NPT to 3/8" Hose (not sure it's even made though) ... Apparently home depot had different product #'s though the SKU's were the same, so the newer one ended up costing $15 vs. the old one at $22.95 ... not a bad deal for me. The only differences in the product itself aside from the filter elements, were the way the tops fitted to the bottoms. The old one was a squeeze and turn sort of deal, the new one is a separate screw ring that mates to the top.
I had to zip tie the canister, I haven't a clue how some people mounted the actual thing, and after a bit of reading here, figured for a temporary fix, a pair of high strength extra long zip ties would be just the thing.
I probably did a bit of extra hose in my install but I don't think that matters a whole lot in the end, it's mounted to the AC canister for the time being.
Install took maybe 10 minutes, longest part to do for me was trying to find a decent enough position for it and which way to point everything without getting kinks and allowing for no rubbing...
prior to this install, I was experiencing my RPM's dropping quite a bit both with the AC on and without, it's not a charging problem, and both my alternator and battery tested well ... so it's either this, or an IAC valve and I don't fancy spending $130 on one of those yet, so I'm going to see if maybe I just had a slight vacuum leak causing a problem or not. will find out when I go out for dinner in a bit I suppose.
not a hard thing to do at all, for very little invested, sure it's not one of those nifty $100 pieces, but it'll do in a pinch
Not the cleanest of installs, nor is it the cleanest of engine bays, as it's a daily driver, and living in Houston with construction everywhere you go, it's hard to keep it clean
But it was a quick, zero hassle install.

will get them in the AM, promise.
it seems to have cured my idle dipping problem for the time being as well (new PCV valve was 3 bucks), haven't caught any oil just yet but I don't intend on checking it every day.
I'll be doing my tranny and torque arm mount as well tomorrow
and my fuel filter, figured i may as well get it out of the way since i'll be under the car

I also have to add, until I can do a bracket for it, I realize it is a lot of extra hose ... I saved the stock elbow that comes off of the PCV valve for when I can do it correctly, and everything else more or less remained in it's stock location (I believe some tend to modify the routing of the pcv itself, I chose not to)

Pardon My Ignorance, But Why Would One Need This Setup? Are You Experiencing Like Some Oil Blow By Where You Have Leaks? I Guess I Dont Understand Why Guys Are Doing These Catch Cans. Can Someone Please Help Me Out?
