Default Does your MTI lid........

i went with the MTI clear lid and at first had slight fitment problems but after messing around a little i got it to fit right... it's a good seal all the way around BUT there is a gap bout 5 or 6 inches long between the lid and the air filter in the back... its a very thin gap but large enough to let air escape.... is it supposed to be like that? and why??

It should seal better than that. Problems like that are the reason I went SLP.

i was just reading some reviews about the clear lid and alot of ppl have trouble with them... i don't have any kind of rubber seal on mine, its just the plastic over the metal on the maf... is this a bad idea? i wouldnt imagine it can't be a great seal..

Just get a 4" rubber coupling to connect the lid to your maf housing.

I just installed my clear lid this morning.. i had two lids, and both were a good fit. My left hatch sometimes just pops out, but if i adjust the plastic clips on the lid itself, i can manage to get a better seal. I don't have escaping air issues.... Is it because your MAF is getting too much contact with your intake-lid base?

Do you have an after market bellow?

Also, just curious, did your clear lid come already drilled with the whole you put your IAT sensor in?

If it is due to MAF clearance issues, a member on this site wrote up a nice option....

You can also just trim a bit of your intake-lid base with some sandpaper...

yeah i have the stock bellow, also the IAT sensor hole was already drilled when i got the lid.

it seems like a good seal where the plastic goes over the maf.. my concern in below that, the area between the plastic trim and the air filter... it seems like the plastic piece is angled up a little and its causing about a 6 inch long gap between the air filter and the plastic... its not a thick gap, its prob about as thick as a nickel maybe a little more.. no matter how u position the lid there is still that gap... should i buy some rubber sealant and just line the entire outer rim of the air filter with it?

i used to have a problem with the left clamp coming undone but i messed around with it a little and fixed that problem.. the lid wasnt pushed back far enough over the maf

I have the same type of gap although mine goes almost tab to tab. I'd like too know if it's worth sealing too.

and this is why i'm starting to consider the Volant intake... all these damn lids keep seeming to have sealing/fitment problems...

it would be nice if MTI would come in here and comment on this....

I just sent mine back to them the fit was WAY off,,,like 3 inches,,,would not line up with the MAF at all..

I told them i would try another, but havnt heard back from them after they picked the original one up,,,hopfully, i will be a happy camper.

yeah i'm thinking about getting rid of the MTI lid and trying an SLP lid... and if that doesn't fit then i'll prob go with the Volant intake... but you would think charging $130 for a piece of plastic they would be made better quality than they are... i'm going to put a rubber seal around it and see if that works, if not then i'm going call MTI and give somebody an earfull

My old MTI clear lid cracked a lot and had a pretty big gap in the back of it. I tossed it out and went with a black RK Sport lid instead. It fits better

why did that guy say the MTI sucked....because it didn't seal good or what?

i went to Lowe's and bought some rubber strip stuff and lined the outer edges on the inside of the lid so that they would lay directly over the edges of the air filter when i put the lid back on... it fits alot tighter and the clamps are locked down good now... and it seems like the whole lid is sealed good now... but i'm not positive it is.
