X-pipe and H-pipe vs No-pipe

Default X-pipe and H-pipe vs No-pipe

Is there any reason to run an X or H over just 2 pipes off the headers into a muffler then dumped? Seems much more cost efficient to not run an X or H, and I don't see where an X or H would create more of a "suck" when gasses are colliding vs just exiting a 3" pipe with a bullet muffler.. or is it just for sound?

hey man I have found that it makes little difference at all. i have a heads and cam 02 WS6 and i have ran an h and an x pipe, and dynoed both there is hardly any difference at all. When I ran straight pipe off each header and into a muffler then dumped it i lost about 2 lb/ft of torque on the bottom end but gained it back up top. The h and x pipe will quiet it down a lil more that straight through will though.

I did it because it smooths out the exhaust note, and quiets it down a little bit. You don't have to, but I'm sure there some power gains, its just a matter of how bad 3-5hp is worth to you.

Im in the same situation. I run straight pipe off the header. And posted a thread a few days ago to see if i was losing power without the "scavenging" affect

While crossover pipes will help with the sound and may not gain much peak power, they can help increase power under the curve. This helps create a stronger mid-range. Of course every car will react differently and there are a ton of deciding factors.

H all the way man..I've had both X-H setups, more tq down low as to x's. deeper, throatier note as well..
