Of course. I'll do lots of checking before I go swapping parts.

Here are some cool articles about remote reservoirs:

Interesting. The media shot has the belt routed differently (incorrectly?) than the engine on the stand pictured above. Makes me wonder how it's been routed on my '04.

I measured the space from the reservoir cap to the hood and it looks to be about 8" or so. I may easily be able to mount a new reservoir off to the side and plenty high enough so it will never starve for fluid.

Thought about this as well. What I came up with is you need a seperate system all together. A resevoir with an electric hydrualic pump in it and then just run the lines. This elimintates the drag on the engine as well. You could stash it where the air pump is that you removed.. or the one I removed was the thought.

Yeah, that would be nice. I know there are vehicles that use electric pumps from the factory, but I don't know much about them. Have you found any info on them?

I got sidetracked and didnt get far into it but they are out there all over the place. Industrial usage but getting the power right is the key. 12v dc vs 110-120v dc
most likely would need an alternator upgrade and then some type of transfer station with a inverter.

Here's some info on a sweet little electric pump/reservoir combo used on the Renault Clio. This is what we need.

It's a quiet, 12v setup that has a pos. and neg. wire for power and a high and low pressure line just like the mecahnical pump we have. So installing it should be a snap.

The guy on the ebay site sells them for $240-$300 which is not bad at all. Shipping from Isreal is $55-$66 dollars usually.

Just think, you could mount this unit where the smog pump would go and move the fuse boxes a little to make way for the reservior to stick up. Or how about this, delete the big power brake booster and run a hydroboost master cylinder and run it plus the rack from this single pump. You could even mount it in the back of the car if you want.

I don't have time to mess with this right now, but in the future I see me getting one of these.

That info is on the ebay page.
When the pump in not under load it produces between 150-300PSI and when under load it automatically pumps up to 1200PSI of hydrualic pressure!!!

I think the ps res tends to become pressurized, though I don't know what causes it. I've taken my ps res cap off enough times lately to notice that it was under pressure.

I'd love to change the pump/res setup since I need to replace my ps pump in the near future anyway.

And the funny turn in that high pressure hose is because, I think, it needs to stay away from the large belt when installed. That's just from memory though.

Pressure would be expansion from the heat.

The caps have some channels made in them to relieve pressure, but not let the fluid spill out. Unfortunately, it still spills out a little. That's why that area is always wet looking.

It's the only place I know of at the moment. That guy has sold a LOT of them on ebay. If you know someone overseas that can get one from a junkyard (assuming they have that model of car) then I'm sure you could get it cheaper. Maybe a LS1tech member overseas could hook us up.

Bringing and old thread back from the dead: I have an f body Ls1 in a 240sx and I didn't like how the previous owner broke the edges of the pulley and the clips that hold the reservoir on the pump so I started searching for answers. I have a couple questions:

Did anyone find out if the GTO setup would bolt up to our engines?

If not, we have a rotary based mill here, and I could drill holes in our solid pulley to gain access to the pump bolts, as long as I do it in such a way that it is still balanced afterward.

I tapped the pump inlet at 1/2 npt with the intentions of doing a remote reservoir, but I don't have much hood clearance in this swap so that leads me to my last questions:

A) does anyone run the electric pump setup?
B) if so, what is your new accessory belt length?
