Default Your opinion on SLP LT headers

well, i have waited almost 2½ months for long tubes from Quicktime performance. although a bit pricey, i heard they were worth it, and seeing how i wanted to learn from my last project i decided to buy from barry. well, he has told me to expect them in late april, well that came and went buy, and called him. told me in a week or 2, and again that went by, and few more calls, and a few more extended dates, and the last straw was he told me sometime by the end of may (give or take a couple days), and here it is june 9th with no headers, and NO PHONE CALLS with another explanation or excuse...whatever you or him want to call it.

well, i am tired of waiting, and unless i receive something early next week, i was thinking of ordering SLP longtube headers. I was wondering what the overall opinion of these headers. im sure my clearance wont be as good as the quicktimes, but then again ill save some cash. now i have a 2001 SS, but i was wondering do i need the ypipe? besides the 02 sensors or other small things, what else should i expect or what should i buy?
im not to familiar with the ls1's yet (unlike the lt1's) but is it the same thing?
how is installation? performance gains, and are you happy you bought them??

your thoughts, recommendations, and opinions are greatly appreciated. a simple post, they are junk isnt really necessary unless there is a reason behind it. thanks in advance

dave

The performace gains are good especially in the low to midrange area. I pleased with them.

well im looking into slp and also maybe ppc. the cool thing bout slp is that it too now comes coated. from what i hear bout ppc is that they took the old groty design which probably is the best design header out there. so im stuck with the 2 of these choices. its just weird how some say the performance wasnt that good, and i see on some articles it got good gains off their headers, y pipe and cats...

IMO, the SLPs work great up to a point. Now if you're running big heads and cam, get something better. I ran them for over a year, and got good results with them.

Love my SLP's. I have been running mine for about 3 years now. They still look like new. Only problem that anyone has said is they do hang a little low. I personnally have had no problems.

Been there done that. I am now awaiting my third different set of headers for my car. This will be the last time. I have Kooks coming. U should skip the SLP's and stay with QTP and wait or get the Kooks. Listen to all the advice and make your own decision. Good Luck

Opinion on SLP's= They suck.
Reason= PITA to install,Hang too low and bottom out easily. And the tuned length means nothing to these cars(no gain over other longtubes)Also famous for burning wires in time.
Can you tell I don't like them

LOL... here my honest opinion!

They SUCK!!

1) Burned through the "burnproof" orange wire shielding

2) The coating corroded like hell in 8 months and was told by SLP "its normal" PIC

3) Hang low, though I never had any problems

4) Can be a restriction with all the funny bends. Although, I did make 700 RWTQ with them

Just get the Kooks!!

well, i talked to barry once again today and he told me "the batch" will be in this week, and all he need to do is polish them up. he told me to expect a call from him next week, 99% most likely telling me when he will be shipping them out.

so, with the mixed responses, i am gonna give him another crack.
