Changed tips, car got quieter????
Ok, how's this sound - I changed the tips off my magnaflow catback (3.5" singles or whatever size), and now startup/idle/part throttle to 2000rpm is about half as loud as it was before??? I just made up some 2.5" hidden tips that just barely poke out past the bumper. My dad also made a comment that it's got a slightly deeper tone to it now. Stock manifolds still.... what the hell lol the things as quiet as stock until i stomp on it

I had those large magnaflow tips on my car and switched to corsa clone dual tips. The car is much quieter but my car whistles when it reaches high rpms because of so many changes in pipe sizing I'd assume. I think its a very unique mod to show off in a tunnel from the echo LOL

No tips, just 2.5" pipe with a slash cut on the end to look like a tailpipe. Let's hope I don't have a whistle like ws6jim lol. I shouldn't though, because I just stick with 2.5" from the muffler to the end now.

Well, I wasn't being literal, but 3.5 tips will be considerably louder than 2.5's, especially if they're long like the Magnaflow ones. The change in sound you're describing exactly fits the modification you've made.
