I recently did an intake swap from a ls1 to the ls6 intake and in the process broke my oil pressure sending unit. Do i have to remove the intake to replace this or is there another way?
When you get your new sensor pick up an oil pressure sensor socket and try that. Never tried it, but maybe you can get something on/around the socket to break the sensor loose.

Might work but that senser is half covered with the intake and the brake vac. line.
Just get the socket like the other guy told you. My new sending unit and socket came from NAPA. And yes you can change it out without pulling anything off. The only problem I had was the old sending unit slipped out the socket and is somewhere on top the A4. Just work on it while the motors cold and take your time. I'm living proof it can be done with the right tool.
i did it with the intake on, if u don't have the air crap on there it's a lot easier, a4 the dipstick is can be an oppsticle also. it took me about a half hour
Yea i need to get around to changing it. Can anything break because it is broke or does it only effect my guage?
You'll need to replace it. I broke mine and considered driving with it without the top half on. In the bottom of the sensor there is a hole for the oil to go into, the oil presses on a diaphragm, the top piece of the sensor holds the diaphragm in place. So I would expect the diaphragm to blow out if you have a broken sensor in there, I may be wrong, but why take a chance of getting oil everywhere.
It would be best to the the intake off to change it, there are problem people out there who have done it without taking the intake off, but you could risk cross threading the sensor or the block. Better to create space and take the time.
