The Importance of Intakes: Real World
Between our two cars, I got some real world numbers that explain just how helpful the SLP intake is.
Air Temperature
At the time of testing, it was 63 degrees outside. While driving my car AND parked, the air temperature (which is read by the AIT sensor) read a constant 63 degrees.
The stock Camaro would read between 80-85 degrees while driving and 90-92 degrees parked.
The only reason for the difference in temperatures between the two cars is the SLP intake. While I am getting cool air from in front of the radiator, my friend's car is sucking up hot air from under the hood
Air Flow
The Interceptor gauge also measures how much air, in lbs/min, are going through the maf sensor.
At idle, my engine sucks in beteen .60 to .65 lbs of air per minute.
My friends Camaro, at best, would use .52 lbs/min.
This proves that air intake modifications really help. The difference between the above two numbers may not look like much, but on the highway, those numbers increase drastically. I forgot to write down his data, but at WOT my car uses 20 lbs/min of air.
