Interesting. I went back and like a fool was trying to measure the pic posted on the monitor. From what I can see the output of the Y appears to be the same size as the tubes runing to the collectors which would make them all 3" OD. I guess the pipe right after the merge but before it reduces is around 3 1/4" OD?

Hammerhead, if I read correctly you had the GMMG I pipe that connects to the Y expanded to fit over it? This would give it an ID of 3"? Did you have it expanded at an exhaust shop? Thanks.

The indication I got from reading and talking to people is that this area did reduce to something smaller than 3" OD and is why I made the comment.

I have the same headers and y-pipe waiting to go on so I'm interested in seeing how the install goes. Keep us posted.

Yea, I had the GMMG I pipe expanded to fit over the 3" AR Y. I tried stretching the I myself the first time with an exhaust expander and it cracked. I had the shop that installed my bullet hook it back up. In retrospect it was kind of a PITA, but there's less of a bottle neck there now.

Thanks for the insight. I will look at doing this myself also.

I just read the entire thread ... can't wait to get mine on. With the 1 7/8" primaries Mike ordered for me, hopefully it will move my power band up a tad. Great looking job man.

I opted for the 3" outlet on my Y pipe. ARH will weld a 3" end and all you have to do is go to a muffler shop and have it expanded. Talk to Nick at A.R.H. He is a big help.

Might be a silly question but why don't they weld all the way around the primaries at the flange? I notice some headers do and some don't weld all the way around. Seems like that'd be like putting 3 lugnuts on instead of all 5.

Congrats man!
I remember when you were trying to decide on what to go with and were asking for advice. Glad you're happy with your decision...you definitely made the right choice.

Great gains as well! I picked up 19/27 on my car completely stock with the ONLY change being the AR Headers and catted y-pipe through a 12 bolt.

They are welded all the way around the primary on the head side of the flange.
