So you are saying that it is mobil1s fault that it is getting through the rear main? That's REDICULOUS
And what evidence do you have that the oil is to blame fo r the roller lifter, because tons of people use it religeously and have never had that problem. you can't just blame a problem a specific cause without any backing to that reasoning.

In no way, shape, or form am I saying that I had those problems solely because I was running Mobil 1.
All I am saying is that there was obviously some friction-related deficiency in my motor that caused the roller lifter to poop out on me. Therefore, I will not take the easy route anymore, and buy Mobil 1. Instead, I will spend the extra $10 and do a little searching to find the German Castrol, which is, very arguably, the best motor oil for an LSx.

if you have 150,000+ miles, you switch to mobile 1, and your engine blows, I highly doubt its the oil that screwed things up. Just coincidence most likely and your motor would have blown no matter what oil you threw in. Just my .02

Secondly, you're probably right, it probably wasn't the oil and it probably would have done the same thing no matter what kind of oil I used. But can you honestly say that the problem might not have taken longer to occur with a better oil?
I switched to GC, after doing a lot of reading and finding out that Mobil 1 just isn't the best anymore. I used to run it, because I thought it was the best. Obviously, I was wrong.
However, my post was as much a complement to M1 as anything else. It protected my motor through 170k miles of me beating the s**t out of it everyday.
You should really think about what you're reading before you assume. I never said that M1 was junk.

Well I am actually impressed that mobil 1 was in your car for 150,000 miles, kudos there. I wouldnt blame the breakdown on GC though. It's been proven to be better. Again, everyone has their own opinion about oils, but from all the testing done, mobil 1 5w-30 is NOT a good oil for our cars. Who knows, if you would have run GC in your engine from day one, it might still be in one piece. We'll never know, that's why you research the tested oils and choose the best.

^^ No, no, no... the problems occurred while running M1... I switched to GC afterwards. I'm installing a new motor tomorrow... and after breakin, it will never see a drop of anything but GC.

the best Oil i have ran is Royal Purple, If you change all fluids over to Royal Purple, i cant remember, but there is a gain if HP. I ran it in my 88 camaro. I had it in the engine, and the rear end. Didnt get to tranny, and now its sold.
Its cost more, but its worth it IMO, its either that or Mobil 1 which is what i ran before i did RP.

I've made 4 trips to Florida, 850 miles one way. Each trip I averaged 70 mph plus or minus a few tenths, except for one trip slowed by an accident north of Tampa. I always travel I-75 from Knoxville south to Punta Gorda.
I've been using around one qt. of Mobil 1 10W30 each way until the last trip when I switched back to Redline 10W30 and used less than 1/2 qt for the round trip plus extra mileage while there. While on the trip, I don't beat the motor, I might hit 6000 rpm a few times pulling out of a rest stop. I never noticed oil usage until I switch from Redline (first oil change when new) back to Mobil 1 for several years. I've stopped for gas and cranked the motor to have the low oil light come one and started carrying a spare quart of Mobil 1 next to the battery. I added a catch can a while back but it doesn't catch anything. I've gone through a qt of Mobile 1 leading my wife's Porsche club when it was her turn to host a drive, allot of 1st and 2nd gear 6000rpm in the tight mountain sections here, hence the catch can.
Cheers, Curt

I have been running Mobil 1 for the last 147,000 miles in my current car. I change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals. I typically use 1/2 quart every 5,000 miles. I have used nothing but Mobil 1 in these weights 10-30, 0-40, (I can't find it anymore around here) and for the last 3 oil changes I have used the high mileage 10-40. Oil consumption has stayed the same 1/2 quart every 5,000 since I got the car. I can't complane about Mobil 1. I have had the motor down with head swaps and cam swaps a couple of times and it looks great inside...The car gets driven hard regularly.

People, smoothness and your "car running better" doesn't mean that the oil you've chosen is protecting your engine better! Read the oil analysis tests, and make your choice from there. Don't go off commercials or your gut feeling about a motor oil. Look at the facts, not opinions...

I use it, I started using super synthetic and then went back to regular stuff. once I am done I am just going to use store brand stuff from Walmart or Advance Auto.
I plan to seafoam every so often to keep things clean.
I catch a few drops every 100 miles or so in my catch can. as long as it doesnt go into the intake I am fine with it. I also did some mixing of a few quarts of 5w-30 and 10w-30 that seem to work fine as well. whatever I run I just dont want it to be too tick for those winter months.

I like Mobil 1 0W40 and feel it's the best oil money can buy. It's not a GF-4 oil so it's additive package is much better then Mobil 1 5W30. It's just a better all-round oil.

Hmmm... I must get him to switch. There is only 12000 miles on the vette and it really doesn't make sense that he is burning 2 qrts in 1500 miles. I think he better go with (from the sounds of it) the GC 0w30.
