Default Stupid AC Delco

Was putting the car up for winter last Friday and went to take out the battery. No biggie, pull the negative no prob. Get to the positive and the sucker wouldn't let go. On top of that my wrench kept slipping on the post. So, i get a pair of pilers to get a bit more leverage and pop goes the post out of the battery. Son of a.... turns out the battery was cracked and had been leaking slowly for a little while and the acid froze it up. Crap...

I get the battery out of the car as fast as possible as it is leaking acid everywhere. It's trashed now, and I'll be replacing it with an optima red top come April.

My question in, my positive battery lead is now all boogered up. The post is rounded off, its got dried up acid on it and it still has a chunk of batter plastic on the back end of it. How hard is it to change the whole cable? I'd rather just start fresh. Anyone done this? The negative wouldn't be too bad, but the positive runs all over the place. Any advice?

You have to plan on a good hour or two, it runs to the starter and the alternator, but it's the right way to do it.

Make sure you get all the spilled acid neutralized, friend of mine had two separate delcos leak from the positive terminal - I'd pull the battery tray/coolant tank and make sure you get it all.

I had this happen to me twice as well. I've always made my own battery cable out of high end Audio system battery cables. 4 gauge or bigger. Crimp some gold plated terminals on there and your done.

Battery/alternator cable sould take about 45 min to change from UNDER the car.

mine are screwed up also, but im changing mine to these 2 gauge monsters:
2 gauge cable is a waste as the starter only needs so much power to crank the car. 4 gauge to the starter and 6 to the alternator is plenty.

My cheap *** Auto Zone battery hasn't leaked a drop.

2 gauge is a waste for the starter, but everything else will be worth it when my system goes in.

unless you have relocated your battery to the rear of the car. But even then 1/O should be sufficient.
