Default need to tone down my 4 inch exhaust

im currently running a 4 inch exhaust with a dynomax bullet muffler in the I-pipe, turned down. needless to say, with the mid sized cam its waaay to loud cruising around. i love the sound now, but its just too loud while cruising on the hwy and hard to carry on a convo with a passenger, talk on the phone, not draw attention, etc. im wanting a muffler that sounds great idling and is hell at WOT with a good tone/pitch, but nice and toned down at cruising speeds. whats everyones thoughts on mufflex, magnalofw, spirals flows, etc. ? and no, a real quiet muffler/cutout setup is out of the question right now.

I have a 4in. Magnaflow race muffler with a turn down right before the rear axle. It's pretty quiet, has a super deep tone, and still loud when i get in it. I had to beat in the floor a little by the rear seat foot well to keep a good amount of ground clearance.

where you beat in the floor, is it noticable from the interior? also do you have any sound clips?

It's not noticeable to me, but i really dont care what the interior really looks like. No sound clips, and i cant get any car is apart.

There aren't as many choices in the 4" size. Have you considered putting bullets in your Y-pipe. A pair of Borlas, pricey, would work nice. Even a couple dynomax bullets would bring the noise down. Maybe then put a chambered muffler in the I-pipe if you want a deep sound.

Just put an exhaust pipe out from under the car. Should do the trick.

running the exhaust out the back of the car is outta the question, tips are ugly on camaros. i have the exhaust ran to the back of the car already, its dumped under the hatch right PAST the axle.

i have considered bullets in the y-pipe, i just dont know how much clearance that will sacrifice, my car is lowered.

some of the oval shaped muffflers and the dyno max bullets won't cost you much ground clearance.

Header cones and a cone for your turn down might help. Header cones may burn up after a while, so you may only get a couple years from them.

Sorry about that. The stock SS isn't a bad look IMHO. The noise trapped under the car will be hard to live with given the sound of most free flowing muffler systems. Good luck with your selection.

DynaTech makes a 4" turn down with a cone. I had one it really quieted it down.

i considerd the cone insert, but DynaTech's website only claims it reduces sound by 1-3 dB's.....i wouldnt think thatd really quiet it down a whole lot?

Given that sound pressure is on a log scale, 3 db's can be a lot at your volume level. Header cones may do more since you are using 2 of them

lol im sure you dont have to drive 4 hours to the beach 4-5 times a year, or leave a gf's house at 1 am and try not ot wake her parents! loud is good for a rae car, but a street car that's driven on occasion it just gets old after a while and starts to make other people mad.

I'm lowered and have bullets in the y-pipe, same location as cats would be. Really tamed the sound down but still awesome at WOT. No problems being lowered with the bullets.
