Question looking for a cat back. which one to get

i'm new to american v8's so please dont flame me for stupid questions

i see that loudmouth is very popular on this board; but is it that much better than lower priced MAC Cat Back System or flowmaster american thunder?

anyone had any experience with cheaper exhaust systems (maybe even a dyno if im lucky)
ws6 store states that MAC Cat Back System adds 18rwhp! anyone owns one

thanks guy

I have a Corsa system. It's probably the highest priced system at right around $900 but it's definitely the best quality and appearence, plus it flows. One look at the tips and I was sold. As far as sound, NO RASP - just a clean, throaty note at WOT and a nice quiet smooth idle and pretty quiet when cruising. With headers though, it's one loud ****. NASCAR

Flowmasters SUCK! Worst for fbodys.
SLP, GMMG, Hooker, Magnaflow, Borla, and Bassani all make good systems. Borla and GMMG are up there in price with the Corsa, but GMMG sounds damn good!

Around $350, Hooker. If you don't plan on doing headers, just get loudmouth.

Loudmouth and headers is wayyyy too loud and doesn't even sound good. It's probably the loudest catback

True Duals with an x-pipe are the way to go, if you don't mind giving up some ground clearance (either way, a larger diameter y-pipe's gonna take up some ground clearance anyways). Amazing sound, no rasp, and the best flow you'll get. Yes, Y-pipe systems CAN flow as much as a duals system but that's another story in its own. If I was in your position, I'd just go with Magnaflow or Hooker catback system. They're tame, cheap, and flow well.

the loudmouth definitely over that mac exhaust!! the loudmouth sounds so damn good with stock manifolds. but once u go longtubes and off road.. its just all out ballsy loud. but other good catbacks are hooker, and magnaflow, and corsa.. and borla.

checkout ls1sounds.com.. lots of exhaust setups there.

I love my Magnaflow. Even though the Hooker souds good, the fact that you pay all that money for aluminized steel, REALLY REALLY pisses me off. lol

I have a magnaflow and love it. It has a nice deep throaty sound that is pretty quiet while cruiseing, but loud when you get down on it. Check out
ls1sounds.com.

Corsa and GMMG are really overpriced. You can pay half and get great quality. I would go Hooker or Magnaflow all the way!! A higher price tag doesnt always mean youre getting a better exhaust system...and it certainly doesnt mean its better suited to your liking/needs. So once again, for a killer catback on a budget, go Hooker or Magnaflow. You will not be disappointed

If I had to do it over, I wouldn't buy a Loudmouth again. The drone gets old quickly. If my car was still a daily driver I'd swap out the resonator for a bullett muffler.

my approach is(when I get some holiday bills paid down) Loudmouth 2(quieter than LM1 and less rasp/drone) and if that is too loud, you can replace the muffler with a muffler from borla, magnaflow, dynomax, etc... and create 'borlamouth', 'magnamouth', 'dynomouth' respectively. do a search and you will find info on each

I went with the Edelbrock.... Sounded real good on my old Lt1 but sounds even better on the LS1 with a ory. Not alot of people if anyone have them so I dont sound like every other tom dick and harry with the blowmasters. They rate right up there with the power increase also.

Classic Chambered is the way to go! That exhaust sounds so clean and deep like an old muscle car... I've got the SLP Loudmouth right now and I love it with my stock manifolds... The cars in the shop right now getting some LT's put on it, so i'll find out what it sounds like then... but I plan on putting some classic chambered mufflers in the resonators place and it's gonna sound awesome!

How does the SLP LM flow compared to the competition? I was looking at its "muffler" and it doesnt seem to have too much restriction what so ever. Anyone have any dyno graphs with the LM's?
