catch can pics
i am doing a set up on my car with a sts kit and fmic......and wondering how many people have a catch can set up
also would like to see some of your areas of mounting a can with a breather
this is that catch can i picked up at a local speed shop for 45.00 with the breather.....what a deal......
is this something i can use if not i will need to return it.

here is where i mounted mine:

sorry, but this is the best pic i have.... the catchcan is tied to both valvecovers. the top port on the catch can goes to the intake manifold/ turbo inlet.

on my car....i bought a used sts kit that was about 80% complete.....i dont have any of the pcv parts or the oil buzzer stuff......before hooking up my catch can.....what advice do you have upon hooking it up???

Are you installing a single catch can?

with the STS, you need to run both valvecover ports thru the catchcan, and hook the catchcan up to a vacuum source. The crankcase needs to be vented under boost. I used the port on the intake manifold with a one way check valve, as well as the inlet side of the turbo for vacuum.

Okay, but that makes no difference. The metal nipple end of the PCV valve should point at the intake. From the picture it's installed backwards; this will pressurize the crankcase. I bet your catch can stays real clean.

he's right.... you need to switch the lines going to and from the catch can. the top port on the catch can should be going to the pcv valve and then to the intake manifold, and the bottom one should just go to the valley cover. you have it backwards
Yes sir, that's backwards also. The PCV valve itself needs to be turned around too.

I don't have a complicated set-up like a lot of you, but here is what I have. After the PCV, a line goes to a cheap catchcan. The line exits the catchcan and runs along the back of the radiator support, under the TB, forward and around the drivers side of the radiator support, toward and behind the hood latch where it then goes through two separators, and then the line continues to the passengers side where it turn to the back of the car and ends up at the intake manifold. I've had oil consumption and burning since adding a big converter (which I think is due to ring flutter and piston slap, since my car sounds like a Cummins) but this has at least kept the inside of the intake clean so far. It doesn't look pretty, but it seems to work, because the second separator collects less than half the oil vapor the first one does, and the first separator collects less than half what the catchcan does.




Why have the PCV valve after the can? Just going to fill with oil faster? As for which port goes where, I've read threads on this before and everyone has their own opinion. Gravity will take oil to the bottom of can either way. Intake stays dry, catchcan collects oil.

The PCV is metal, however the OEM boot it's in is a rubber material. The valve actually slips into the boot, and the boot should have a metal clamp-like deal that snaps around the boot and valve to hold them together. The clamp is also attached to the water crossover pipe if this helps.
