I took it off and replaced it with a Lakewood driveshaft safety loop.

Tunnel brace = Upper panhard bar or front swaybar in the car stability/safety department???

Are you saying the 3 are not equal in importance?

What I think he is saying is that the tunnel brace is not nearly as important as the front sway bar and rear upper panhard bar. I'm not really sure why GM put it in, other than maybe to be a makeshift driveshaft loop. Both the stamped peice of sheetmetal and the braces aren't strong enough to brace anything under there. Plus I'm not really sure what the issue would be in the tunnel that you'd need the brace. It's not like the tunnel is going to flex or widen. No clue. Chalk that up to unsolved mystery.

Yes, thank you Alchemist.

Remove 1 of the 3, drive around, see what happens. You won't even notice the tunnel brace is gone. But the other two...

Using a BMR driveshaft loop bolted there WITH true duals. Pretty easy to install, those that complain about having to remove the driveshaft are just lazy.

I removed mine years ago. Originally a little worried about it but after seeing how flimsy and weak it was I figured it couldn't possibly be doing much. As I never got any rattles or creaks after it was removed. After four years I'm either right or there is a bomb waiting to go off under my car.

OK, I concur it's not as important as the other two. But if you have no DSL it's better than nothing imho.

It is there primarily as a driveshaft safety brace and secondarily as an additional brace. Can you remove it? Sure, and you won't do any harm as long as you don't break the front u-joint or yoke. If you do, you'll wish you had it. Will it impact body strength - very little or none, but why not put a different brace there if the stock one is in your way. There are many aftermarket alternatives.

LOL, some of these replies are funny...I had to have a driveshaft loop though so that's what I put there...
