LT install complete... rich blue smoke

headers are installed, car running fine. no rear o2 sims, but no ses light either. there is a rich smelling blue smoke coming from the engine compartment. i was told that the headers have a preservative oil coating which needs to burn off. makes complete sense to me, but how long should i expect it to smoke like this?

It sounds like you forgot to put your dipstick back in and its blowing out oil onto your headers.

the dipstick is back in... also it seems to be more "potent" on the driver's side. i've searched and searched and i can't find any single point of origin. the smoke seems to be coming off of the headers themselves.

When i did my headers for the first time, there was a bunch of grease and **** on them from the install, they smoked for 10-15 min then it was fine, try letting it run for a while and see if it helps..

they're painted and i've run it for half an hour or so... oh well, thanks for the input. i'll just keep looking around to see if i can find the culprit.

We could smell our Edelbrock/coateds for a couple days...no smoke though...that is something else I bet.

More than likely it's the paint on the headers. My hooker's smoked for about a day or two. You gotta remember there's oil and grease that may have gotten transferred from the motor onto the header's and also from your hands or gloves. If your really concerned just look it over really good and if you can't see anything wrong, just keep an eye on the oil level for as long as it smokes. Also check and make sure there aren't any wire looms laying on them.
