Default My Poly Motor mount install (pic)

I did a lot of reading on here before i did my mounts and I just wanted to share my experience. I know alot of us know this, but i just wanted to try and help out anyone if they had questions.....

1: Have an extra pair of hands to help you

2: I had no headers or manifolds on, I have no idea how you guys do them with them in....

3: I never removed any of the A/C or Alternator, just the 2 bolts for the starter and let it hang below the k-member. I got most of the pedestal and motor mount bolts from the top. The others I got from the bottom with either a ratchet wrench or an extension/swivel/socket.

4: I first took off the 18mm nut off the long bolt, but left the bolt in. Then I took out all the pedestal/mount bolts. The I was able to turn both slightly and the remove the long bolt then take out both the mount then pedestal.

5: For the rivets on the clam shells, I am sure batteries and the cordless drill will work. But I used my drill press. Piece of cake, started with a 3/16" bit the worked my way up to 3/8" If you have access to one I recommend it over the cordless drill. Then like everyone hates you have to pry the bonded rubber mounts out. Then install new mounts with tabs towards the motor and top(pic) Then to install the new bolts, I have a vice, also if you have access I recommend it. Made the new mount/bolts-nuts install very easy.

Finally.... In putting the new mounts/pedestals back in...in this order.... On both sides we bolted the mounts to the motor tight, then they were done. I then did the pass. side first installing the pedestal and the 4 bolts but just get them started dont tighten, now this will give you just a very little bit of pedestal wiggle but it helped. Then put the 18mm bolt in from the back to the front(pic-is the driver side ), so the nut would be facing the A/C & ALT. but dont tighten yet. Then go to the driver side, install the pedestal and again start the 4 bolts but dont tighten yet. Now with your buddy it is just a matter of up/down/left/right with the jack/prybar to get the other 18mm bolt in, take your time it will go in. At first mine wasn't even close, like over half a bolt off but I was jacking the motor up and down, and using a pry bar from the top in between the motor mount and pedestal, and my buddy down below on the bolt, you can get it. We got it close and then took a small hammer and taped in through. Finally tightened all the pedestal bolts, the 2-18mm nuts put the started back in......done

Just a FYI post thats all.........

How were you lifting the motor? Just curious because I need to install new motor mounts on my LT1.

Sorry, I worded my question wrong...what location did you lift the engine by? I have heard people say crank pully and others say oil pan. I also assume you used a piece of wood in between the jack and the engine.
