I havent used my AC in over a year. Well, mainly because when I did the cam and heads I never refilled the thing. I would like to pull the entire unit out of the car to make more room in the engine compartment as well as get rid of the jumbled mess look.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to a site that walks you through the entire process of getting rid of the AC and what you will need to do it?

lol I ripped mine out, you lose the heater. I made a plate out of stainless steel to cover up the big *** hole in the firewall. you have to take your dash out pretty much which isn't that bad, I just winged and I was ok.
check out these pics you can see what it looks like.

Nickn20 pulled the entire HVAC system out of the car. I pulled only my AC out and kept my heater core intact and my heater still works perfectly. Since you already have your system purged already it is very easy to pull everything off.

All you need to do is pull the compressor, the condenser radiator, canister and lines to the heater core. It is pretty easy to do, and just leave the heater core intact to retain its functionality. We use a couple of the plastic battery terminal caps to cover the holes on the heater core. You could use some duct too. Just trying to keep the dirt out if I ever decide to use ac again. No special tools are needed to do this, and it drops a lot of weight off the nose.

Would doing this also free up any HP by removing the parasitic drag created by the belat around the pully? I know it would be minimal if any. thats not why I am doing this though.
I also noticed a couple of wires running to sensors on the AC system. Will I thow any codes by unlugging this stuff?

It will free up a small amount of power...probably not very noticable. As far as throwing codes you will throw a code on the AC system but it wont affect the way the car runs at all. You'll just have the SES light on all the time. I just put some electrical tape around the connectors I took off. You'll prolly gain more in the weight that is removed from the car than you will from not having to turn the compressor with the belt.

I would think it would but I want to be sure. I dont want to get used to seeing the SES light and ignoring it when something serious could be getting ready to happen
I just pulled mine recently, very easy to do. We had it out in 45 min tops. Pulled out was the condensor, evaporator, lines and brackets off of the block with the pulleys and bolts. Taped up the electric connectors on the harness. I haven't thrown any codes since this has been done. Don't think it will if you keep the HVAC switch away from the a/c on position....

I got through doing the removal. the only thing left is finding the right size TORX bit to remove the cyl. thingy braket ( I think its the evaporator).
How far back into the black housing do those lines go in the fire wall? Is it best just to cap them right where they come out of the housing or can I get more out by going farther in? AND is it even worth it to go that far?
Thanks for putting up with the silly questions. I dont know what I would do without you guys!

I just left mine right where they go into the HVAC box on the firewall. I think it's a totally sealed unit so you probably cant go any farther than that with them. Just cap them off there and be done with it. It's a T-40 torx you need to get that bracket off.

I'll try and find some caps for those lines and leave them alone. I was really hoping that I could go further in though. Thats where I wanted to free up most of the space...oh well, got a few pounds off the nose of the car.
You guys werent lying, that was pretty easy. Took all of 40 minutes including beer breaks.
