Default TSP Rumbler Catback Write-up

Well later today UPS should be arriving with my Rumbler catback. Figured I'd do a little write up on getting it on. I'm painting it with high temp paint tonight after I get off work and hopefully get it installed by Saturday. I'll update this with pictures. I would love to install it all myself mainly for the learning experience but I'm lacking in some tools. Luckily I work in service at a dealership and can get help from the techs whenever I need it.

The only problems I can foresee happening is regarding taking the stock system off. While I'm in Arizona, my car was originally from New York. Surface rust is decorated on my undercarriage. It is hard to see the threads on the bolt that clamps the i-pipe together. It looks like a solid piece of metal. So an impact is more than likely needed. I will be using plenty of penetrating oil. I'm sure I'll have to cut the stock piping in one place as dropping the axle or any suspension parts will take even longer.

Yes this catback will be loud, I know that. I would buy another system but funds are tight enough for me as it is and I've been dying to do something else to my car.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I can not count how many writeups I've read but I feel the more information the better. I read these forums way more than I post so this might make up for it. Updates will be posted as the install comes along.

I'm going to keep the stock one just in case. So I don't want to cut it up too bad.

I'm ok with one or two cuts. Trying to avoid taking anything else apart.

It may take the BFH manuever to get the I pipe off of the Y pipe. Just FYI . Might want to take some ear plugs too...that **** resonates when your banging.

I got one I can use. The i-pipe does look rusted on there.

Do you have to do that if you just cut the stock exhaust off?

Also, how does it connect to the stock y pipe?

Well I'm in the middle of getting them painted. Painting is not one of my strengths. Glad that my first real paint job is going to be out of sight under the car. I'll have pictures in a second.

Nice big box.

Included in box is three pipe sections, muffler (if you want to consider it one), four clamps, and lots and lots of packing popcorn.

Got a second coat of paint on and I'm letting it dry overnight. If I'm lucky, it will be on tomorrow.

Installation was fairly smooth. I don't have any in-progress pictures, only the end result. Camera phone only that has a slow shutter. I can't keep my hands still enough so some pics look blurry.

Impressions: It is quieter at idle than I was expecting it to be. Which is a good thing, I didn't want anything obnoxious. Driving around 1500-2500 rpms it drones. To be expected I guess. Just under 3000 rpms it changes its tone and seems to get quieter. At 3500 rpms the tone has transformed completely to something much more aggressive. From there to redline puts a grin on your face.

Fit: Clearance between the driveshaft and muffler is very close. It isn't hit, just real close. Maybe it was just how we had that particular pipe turned. The heat shield in the over axle area was touching the pipe and we bent it away to avoid any rattling. Again we may have just mounted the section in not the ideal way. We got the back portion lined up nicely. One pipe sticks out a little further than the other and that is the only thing I need to adjust. As you can see in some of the pictures, I'm wondering if I'll need to get some tips or turn downs to avoid sagging the parts of the bumper. The stock tips came out further so it wasn't an issue.

All in all I'm am very happy with the results and recommend this system to anyone on a tight budget. If you have any other questions about it feel free to ask.
