I am in the process of switching my TDs to a custom 3" y pipe with a flowmaster merge and GMMG c/b. Kind of want a different sound

I hear you man. All I am saying for the ones I have heard, thats the way it was. My TD's on the SS are loud as hell. But a buddy of mine has GMMG and I think his is louder do to a higher pitch... Mine is more throaty, kinda like a stang. Sounds sexy.... I'll see if I can get a clip of it.

Yeah thats what I guess I meant. It has a higher pitch than TD's. I am looking for something a bit more throaty. Some stangs sound aight...

I love my GMMG ... though the Y pipe i have is less than enjoyable, a quick change to the Y-pipe will basically kill any rasp I've got in the system. I'm likely going to be copying patrick g's Y idea, using a dr gas dual 3 into 4" y with a 4" cutout back into the 3" intermediate ...

as much as I love some duals and their sounds, I still fall in love with my GMMG every time I push the gas, and duals for me, unless done pretty much to my spec, would not be worth it, in my opinion, because I love the way the GMMG sounds over all else.

though I guess if you want to do Duals and quiet it down but have that kind of sound, run 4 16" chambers through the system... 2 after the X, and 2 out for tips.

just my few pennies

some say they vibrate you to death but mine doesn't! My buddy has one on an a4 and his vibes a little at certain rpms but I'm sure he could loosen it up a half turn at a time. I think that'd work. My 6spd doesn't vibe one bit. I'd say getting one and loosening it is worth it.

I voted for selling it. I had a GMMG on my car and loved it, from stock manifolds to H/C/I. But fact of the matter is I only kept a catback for tips for my bumper cutouts on my Trans Am. If I would have had a Camaro or Formula, I wouldn't have got a GMMG and would have went TDs in a heartbeat. As it is I have sold my catted Y-pipe and had a pending sale on my GMMG and went with a X-pipe/ Spiral Flows for coin for a new clutch. Sell the GMMG for mod money if you need to.

why would you ever want to get rid of that exhaust for something that sounds like a beat up contractors pickup truck

one chamber true duals > all other exhausts

It depends on if you run cats or not. GMMG is extremely loud and has horrible tone with ORY. For my tastes, though, true duals are also too loud. But they will sound better than GMMG/ORY. GMMG with cats makes for beautiful sound.

I'm running without cats and don't really want cats, not sure if it really does make a huge difference in tone.

I agree, GMMG with cats is a nice sound. No rasp and actually pretty quite inside the car.

I just swapped out my TSP duals for a custom catted Y with electric cutout and GMMG CB. It is a huge difference in sound from inside the car. but with the cutout open and behind the car it sounds beautiful. Deep tones and No RASP.

If it was up to me I would stay with what you got, GMMG is a badass setup and sounds great. Duals are great as well but you got to worry about ground clearance and those pain cops that write tickets for dumped before axle. LOL (personal experience)

Go Duals. It's going to sound SO much better.
The loudness/drone is all in the cats, mufflers, exhaust exit poisition you choose.

I'm gonna vote for duals over the axle with XR-1s if you don't want it extremely loud. I've never heard a catback that sounded better to me than a nice set of duals. For my setup I am going with Classic Chambered Exhaust's Powersticks, which are a chambered muffler kinda similar to a GMMG, but those are gonna be very loud.
