Default GMMG vs True Duals

Which sounds the best in real life in your opinion? Keep in mind the GMMG came with the car. I didn't go out and spend a grand on the GMMG, and now want to sell it. Just wondering if some change to the car would be a bad idea!!!

i'll be curious to see what people say. i haven't owned either so i am not going to vote, but I had slp loudmouth as my first exhaust, which i liked... until i started getting pulled over for it.

I then switched to LT's, ORY, and got a hooker catback with a cutout in it. i usually drive with the cutout cracked open a bit. i think open cutout for hte most part is too loud, but the catback seems almost too quiet. i ahve been considering true duals but if there gonna be about as loud as my loudmouth (with stock cats and manifolds) then i wouldn't want to do that... but if i could get a tad bit quieter than that... i'd go for it

Yeah I have been pulled over a couple times with the GMMG just crusing at 2k. It seems to wanna be really loud all the time, which I don't really mind, but I have heard good TD setups that make me start to think...Plus the GMMG does get a bit raspy from time to time.

I voted true duals, but theyd have to be done right to sound better than a gmmg IMO. GMMG is a great sounding catback but you cannot beat the rumble and smooth sound of true duals. Just be careful which mufflers you choose. Borla XR1s sound great after an x pipe dumped before axel

What mufflers did you end up going with?

for that banging y pipe make sure the y pipe is bolted on the passenger side of the car where its usually bolted and get you a "prothane transmission mount" Your ypipe issues will be solved.

I've told him that but he did not want a poly motor mount

Keep the GMMG and make/have made a custom Y-pipe using the flowmaster merge. You'll have the flow of the true duals, and any rasp should be non exsistant.

The Y-pipe can be fixed I know that. I just want the best sound and flow from an exhaust. Limited rasp, etc...

I don't have a problem keeping the GMMG, just wanted some opinions.

I'm looking at a TD setup with an X-pipe and better sounding mufflers...GMMG is louder than any setup I have heard. I've gotten pulled over many times when just cruising at 2k rpms. It's not just loud at WOT, it's loud all over the band LOL. Although I do believe GMMG is the best sounding catback, just not sure if the right combo of TD's would sound better!

It depends on the mufflers that you get. GMMG is louder than some of the TD setups I have heard. I will probably look for custom y-pipe setups if I stick with my GMMG. Or I will look into the poly motor mounts.

I have never heard a GMMG that was louder than a TD setup. Unless the TD setup was all the way out the back with something like borla mufflers, like what I have on the ss..

My z28 has dumped exhaust, and it is way louder than GMMG.

I just switched from true duals under the axle and out the back with magnaflow mufflers to a custom y pipe and slp dual dual. The true duals are very loud...even out the back. Having a stalled auto with a cam doesn't help though. I just got tired of the sound, and now I have the same flow (cutout) when I want it.....and a nice quiet sound when I don't.
