I wouldn't run it without oil.. the oil is what traps most the particals.

A dealership told me that if u ever bring your car in for engine warranty work and they find that oil inside of yur intake or anywhere else they can void the warranty if it relates to the work that needs to be done.

Well.. I don't blame them. If you put too much oil on the filter you could have that problem. But if follow the instructions with the "recharge" kit you should be fine.

Working for a Pontiac dealership,I have seen this
many times. Without oil, the filter will flow far
more air and finally cause a code for running too
lean. Also the oil is what traps all the dirt.No oil,and the dirt will go right through the filter.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. *edited*

Listen to WILWAXU. He is correct. Plenty of guys run no filter at the track. Why I'm not sure. You really don't see a gain, but you do get a nice amount of dirt in your motor. You need to recharge your filter properly. Too much oil and it'll get on your MAF wires and it'll throw a code. The dealer may void the warranty on the MAF as a result...and rightfully so IMO.

I speak from experience. No speculation here. How come running WITHOUT a filter doesn't throw this lean code you speak of?

Its just what I have seen many times.A factory air filter is what is put in to solve the problem. But anyway, this shouldnt be an issue,a K&N should always be oiled.

*edited* Every experienced LS1 enthusiast knows that dealers don't know anything about these cars.

You win. You're right. End of discussion.

Hehehe... If the dealer complains about oil from the K&N, I'd complain right back about oil on the inside of the intake manifold from the poorly designed PCV system.

Seriously though, listen to WILWAXU and unit213. They really their ****.

Good one pimpmaro regarind the PCV system! I can see the scene at the dealer. You're arguing with the service manager because he won't warranty your MAF due to excessive oil on the wires from the K&N. You walk over to the car. Take a dime out of you pocket. Unscrew the bellows clamp and you pop the airlid. You pull off the intake and open the throttle body blade. You run two fingers behind it and come out with tons of oil. Point taken. Dealer replaces your MAF.

StalkerLS1-

That's a good pic, but it's misleading. Put a flashlight against your hand and you can see the light coming "through" it. Filters are designed to catch particles at the micron level. I would expect light to pass through it.

Actually the picture sucks.. It's much more obvious looking at it in person. Hard to really focus on that one spot but the entire thing is like that..

Guys,
Easy solution for over oiling.
After cleaning & re-oiling or when new, put the filter on a highly absorbant paper towel (3-5 min max)
Repeat for other side and voila! properly oiled filter with no extras, simple HUH.
After using this method i had much less deposits on MAF and TB, to the point that once a week I only used a light rag to just wipe the thing off.
