Question some questions about getting a cutout

Ive been running around for awhile now with an open y pipe. i think it sounds pretty good and loud except for the rasp when u let off the throttle. BUT.....the rear looks like crap without any exhaust system and the i pipe clanking around everytime i hit a bump is getting pretty annoying.

eventually i would like to go with a tru dual setup with lt headers and such but im going to pay off the car this summer and stuff before i do anything major with it.

is there a cutout i can buy that i dont have to weld on or modify anything to make it fit? will the cutout get rid of that annoying rasp too? I want the look of the magnaflow system i have but the sound of the open y pipe.

I have a 3" cutout in my system and it has the sound you refer to when the cutout is open. When the cutout is closed it is pretty quite through the GM Performance exhaust on my SS. I have a DMH ecutout also so it can easily be opened and closed. Remeber things will only get louder when long tubes come your way.

Just putting on a cutout will not change the sound you currently have if you have no catback. I was going to use the Dynomax cutout with stepped band clamps since the ends (3" ID) were designed to slip over existing pipe. But the dump on it was 3.5" which would not have allowed me to use the ecutout I already had.

I just put a 3" summit racing manual cutout on my stock I pipe right before the rear axle. Took me 2 hours to put on and it doesnt have any rasp and sounds great. However the stock I pipe is only 2.75 inches and the cutout is 3. It actually has a flanged part to fit OVER 3" pipe. I cut the flanged part off and slid the rest over my exhaust and clamped it down tight, it sounds great when its open but still has a small leak when its closed because the pipe is too big, i will have to have it welded to seal it up right at a shop. Sounds so good when its open i dont know if i ever want to cap it though. best part is it cost me $26
