Default Who has ported a BBK intake or t.b.?

I truly regret buying the BBK intake and 85mm t.b. for my car. They were the first two mods I did due to some itchy fingers, a bonus from work, and Ebay.

Instead of buying a F.A.S.T. I'm waiting to see the results of the new weiand, but I was thinking about seeing if there could be gains found from porting the bbk setups.

Has anyone done anything to modify these intakes beyond port matching them? What about the throttle bodies? They look like theres a good amount of material there to massage it up to perform as good as some of the larger throttle bodies and if the flow could be worked right i think theres some good results to be found.

Let me get some other opinions, let me know your thoughts on it...

The LS6 with stock ported throttle body perform better for cheaper.

I haven't seen enough comparison tests to confirm one way or another conclusively, but if you look at the link above, the BBK picks up 27 hp 14 lb torque (engine dyno) over an LS1 intake with a pretty healthy motor. I think a LS6 and ported stock throttle body would just as well if not better for alot cheaper.

Don't get me wrong, It is a good intake manifold but I'm all about dropping some weight on something and the jump to composite would be worth it for me, plus the first time we had it on the dyno we kept taking the teperature and it was as followed-

85* day
Drove the car an hour to the shop, sat for 2 hours, at the end of the 2 hours it was 106* then we got it on the dyno
after one pull it was 121* so we let it sit for 30 min then took the temp again and it had risen to 133*
we did another pull and it hit 142*
we let it sit for another hour and a half and it dropped to 110*
we did not see losses in power throughout these pulls

I also drove the car about 4 hours straight one time and the intake manifold was at 242* when i stopped for gas and it was running like crap but that could be any number of things. This was in approximate 70* weather at 75-80 mph.

I believe heat soaking is a problem with these but only on if you are running in stop and go traffic where the air is moving through the intake at a much lower speed.

I'm not a believer in high rpm heat soak being an issue. The air is moving insanely fast through there and I don't think the air has enough time in the manifold for the manifold temperature to make a noticable impact on the intake air temperature. Once it hits the head I think it may make a little more of a difference, but thats another story.

The weight is a major thing for me also. The heat soak is not that big of a deal. The amount of material in there just makes me wonder if there is alot more gains to be have from porting one of these myself, or having it profesionally done.

I've ported my knock off BBK 80mm TB (exact same TB for way less $$$) and am running an LS6 intake manifold. No seat of the pants difference.
