Default Once again, another exhaust thread plagues ls1tech.com! :p (borla owners please look)

I have been looking at and hearing different exhaust systems for a long long time and internet recordings just vary way too much depending on the equipment used to record the sounds. Sometimes an exhaust will sound absolutely awesome and other times it will sound like the gate's of hell released its gang of fart cannon imports. A big problem with a lot of recordings is they seem to take away all the low sounds a V8 engine produces, unless all after market exhausts magically remove the low end sounds my STOCK exhaust is capable of producing which I highly doubt is true.

What I'm looking for is an exhaust that will be loud and still retain a nice low tone to it as well as giving off a nice deep gurgle at idle. I'm in love with the deep popping sound the stock WS6 exhaust makes when I hold the clutch in and let the RPMs drop from up high it just isn't loud enough.

My future plans for exhaust involve going long tube headers (Kooks, most likely).

I was originally planning on going TSP true duals with sweet thunders because videos I've heard of it are just mouth dropping, but I'm afraid it may be a bit TOO loud and I will be constantly harassed by cops. I want loud, just not loud that will make me a mobile ticket station, but not so low that you can't hear me from 10 feet away.

I've liked videos I've heard of the Borlas so far and I see a lot of people rave about GMMGs, but what exhaust out of all the ls1 f-bod ones available will give me a deep, loud tone while retaining a nice low idle gurgle. I want them to sound good after going to long tubes also. (Cats are optional because I will be tuning the codes out with a tuning software when i get the money later on)

It may be a long post, but I'm looking for a sound that I will love for years.

I have listened to a lot of the videos on ls1sounds.com

On another note, I love most of the videos I have heard of Borlas, what are your guys opinion on the Borla system? How can you explain the sound in person? How does it sound with long tubes with ory or catted y?

Other than the TSP with sweet thunders Borla are next on my list.

i was on the same path as you for a long time, i just couldnt find that perfect exhaust. i thought i found it in the tsp kit with sweet thunders, but then i heard it in person and its just a bit too loud for every day. i have decided to do lt's and ory with an e-cutout into the stock catback. best of both worlds, loud and quiet and anywhere in between. i might pick up a used magnaflow or other catback later on just to have a better tone when its closed. hope this helps you out...

I was actually looking into the e-cutouts earlier.

Not sure about them yet.

This sounds even better in person. http://73-ls1.com/misc/Thunder236.wav

It was a custom Y-pipe I had built before anyone was selling e-cut out y-pipes.. Pacesetters, Dual e-cutouts, 3" cats, knecked down to 2 1/2" exhaust in to a flow master dual 2 1/2" to single 3" Y collector, over the axle in to a hooker aerochamber muffler.

You can here when I open the cut outs..

Borla+LT's+ORY=raspy crap IMO.....I have LT's, ORY, and Corsa with a bullet in the I pipe...not raspy, but loud with a decent tone to it.

Like my stainless gibson, not sure how loud it would be with longtubes / no cats though.

I've heard that a lot of people hate Borlas when combined with a LT and an ORY, but I've also read that replacing the ORY with a high flow catted Y gives the Borlas a nice, bearable, tone. Any personal experience with a catted LT Borla setup?

I have Pacesetter LTs and ORY pipe going into a borla cat back. I love the sound of my exhaust but i will say it might be a little raspy for some peoples taste...Hopefully the MS4 will take some of that away

lt's ory and hooker!! i have heard many different exhaust's in person and hooker does it for me. The borla adjustable catback is a nice system, i just absolutely hate the design. Borla makes a different catback thats non adjustable the you never hear of anyone using. Personally i think with long tubes and ory it would sound really nice. Its cheaper than the adjustable system too. Duals will all be too loud if you dont extend them out the rear of the car IMO.

You have any decent videos of your hooker setup? Was listening to some videos and none of them seem to have a good rev one, most seem to rev to like 2-3k and thats it.
