Default Will AIR system removal cause emissions to fail?

Just wondering if pulling the system would be enough to cause the car to fail the sniffer. Thanks

Not if the engine is fully warmed up while the test is being done. The AIR system only runs for a short while when the engine is first started to get the cats working properly. It will throw a code though.

it WILL through a code? I've been reading that it only throws a code if you pull the fuse for it...

According to the new and improved "braile" version of LS1Tech's stickies , it states the following:

AIR - Air Injection Recirculation - Emissions controll device. Injects fresh air into the exhaust gas before the cats. Helps them heat up to reach "emissions light off" faster.

Removal Pro's:
Weight, clean bay, no more annoying sound on startup, spare rubber hose to use on other stuff.
Removal Con's:
Only worry about VERY strict visuals (read: California) causing failure. Sniffer test can only tell before car is warmed up. After car reaches operating temp, the AIR pump shuts off and becomes useless. SES light will come on if system is removed unless codes are tuned out. Blockoff plates for exhaust manifolds required unless using "race" headers.
Removing the fuse will only stop the pump from running. The computer is still looking for all the other parts to work properly, ie the check valves on the exhaust manifolds.

Keep reading down to post #31 and lower. It will throw a code eventually. I tuned my AIR and EGR out as soon as I removed it so I can't vouch for that info.

The pics from that AIR removal link are from a '98 Camaro. It does have a check valve on each manifold.

The pump will run a short 2 second test in which it kicks on. Then the PCM looks at the rear O2 voltages to see if they dropped, (adding air in, leans the exhaust out, O2 voltage drops.) If it doesn't see that voltage change then it'll throw the SES light.
