Default CC exhaust insert update! So long rasp!

I installed a CC(Car Chemistry) 2 1/2" insert into each collector pipe on my ORP Y-pipe today. No welding, I just shoved it into the pipes and seated them with a dowel and a hammer. SIMPLY AMAZING! The video does no justice, it was a cold start each time. I had severe rasp from the headers and ORP, now I have none, nothing, not even a hint of rasp. It did quite things down too. It's still about 20% louder that the cats, but sounds more gutteral. At WOT it screams, but not eardrum shattering loud. The car also runs considerably better. Noticably less lope and searching at idle, the car shakes much less now. Much less popping on deaccel. I have recovered my low rpm torque and the car revs more smoothly. The car feels quicker and has much better manners now, all from a little metal insert. I strongly recommend this product to anyone who has a rasp or noise issue. I would love to hear a Loudmouth with this insert in the resonator. Rasp has been conquered!

Bassani headers & ORP, stock I-pipe, Magnaflow muffler and Edelbrock tips. Oh yeah, a 218/218-114 cam .559 lift.

I use one of these inserts on my 3800 'camaro. I have it put in where the intermediate pipe usually slips on, but this is where I terminate my exhaust with one of the CC inserts. Works very well and relatively cheap too.

They talk about a plug and restrictor included with the insert, but leave it out for racing. Could you explain that a bit?

XXX,

Great news...did you use the 2 disk or 3 disk inserts? I think I'm gonna use these to make some 3" pipe blanks to replace my RT cats.

I used the 2 disk setup. Don't use the 3 disk unless you are running without cats and mufflers, it would be too quiet. Two plugs are included to further reduce noise, but I would not use these, as they would affect backpressure. I put on some 100 miles on it yesterday, and I am very pleased with the sound and a smoother running engine. With all the complaints I have seen on the boards about rasp, I surprised that few people knew about this cure.

Anyone put a single 3-inch in the I-pipe yet? This might be a reasonable priced answer to my rasp problem!

How hard are they to install??

Would the same thing work if it were installed where the y-pipe meets the intermediate pipe?

I just got finished installing the 3" 2 disc unit in the I pipe right after the Y. I haven't taken on the highway yet to see if the "pull" is adversely affected but the flat "clap" sound (not quite a rasp) is gone and it is quite a bit quieter. So far I am very pleased with the result. Install was a piece of cake.

I may look into getting one as well if it will rid that clap sound. That is one thing about my exhaust sound I'm unhappy about... sound kinda like a nasty pickup

Anyone else installed thes interested in knowing if they hurt power etc.
Do they have to be installed after the collector?
Or is the I pipe install OK?

In your video the motor is only at idle... You have any before and after clips reving the **** out'a the motor? I can deal w/ the rasp at idle... its when I hammer on it, is when it pisses me off.

Near as I can tell, the install in the pipe has no adverse affect on power but the affect on the flat rap or rasp is dramatic.

Spoke to Car Chemistry and install in the I pipe right after the y is OK.

I installed one ther on mine and rasp is gone, sounds great on hard acceleration!

I've had these in for about 10 days now, and the final verdict is: These inserts are a winner. I was ready to yank my ORP off and put the cats back on, no need to now. No dyno is necessary, the inserts certainly did not loose any power, if anything, thet flattened out the torque curve, especially at lower rpms. The sound is real nice, without any loud peaks at certain rpm's, and has a "pipey" flavor to it. If you have a rasp issue, these inserts will eliminate it, without changing the exhaust note too much.
