Can I just plug it off if I don't have AC?

Yeh, but if you still have heat, I think it will only blow out from the bottom??

Sounds like you had a hard time with the install. The threads on here made it seem real easy but i had some difficulty with it on my car but then i helped my friend that has the white z just like yours and it was a piece of cake.
