Use a re-usable rubber freeze plug, you can get them at any parts store... can't remember the dia. But it has a nut on top to tighten and expand the plug to seal the hole. Worked perfect.

The guy i bought my car from did this... great idea.

Take the freeze plug out of the EGR hole. Tighten the nut to expand the plug to the point where when you try to put it back in the EGR hole its a very tight fit and you almost have to "beat" it in. Then tighten the nut some more. It will expand some more w/o spinning on you.

35 mm freeze plug, metal ones work too. Napa has them in stock.

I used a rubber expansion plug as well. Reef on that MF and it will seal.
