Default SLP Long Tube Header Install question

I have a 2000 LS1 Z28 and I am planning on installing SLP's Long Tube Headers w no cats. I already have SLP's Loudmouth exhaust.

My question is: Has anyone done a similar install and have any tips that might make the install go more smoothly? Also if Im gonna need any special tools?

I didn't instal the headers myself but from what i've been told they are a BITCH to install. And if you have the old model (as i do even though i bought a year ago) they hang very low to the ground. Stay used to going sideways over speed bumps. If you ask me i'd try and find another header personally, but that's just my .02. Be very good with the heat shield because it runs right next to the headers, it is a very close fit! I'll leave it open for other's who have done them to comment but that was just my experience, even though me and all of my friends run SLP headers hahaha!!

FYI, SLP no longer sells any "offroad" headers or y pipes.

I installed the headers on my car by myself. With cats.

I had stock exhaust before.
Then I bought loudmouth.
It was great, sounded perfect to me...deep enough, and heads
turned when I started it.

Then I put on SLP headers.
One of the exhaust bolt holes did not line up.
I should have drilled them just a little bit larger as soon as
I got them from SLP.
You have to jack the car WAY up. I had them on jack stands
at maximum height and 2x12's under the jack stands.
Get at least 36 inch clearance off of ground.

The one by the starter is very tight.
I had to wrap a bunch of wiring in the heat resistant wrap.

PM me if you want to know more detail.

After install there was resonance(sp) inside the car at idle
and at 50ish cruising. Also, when I would step on the gas
at 50% or more there was rasping.

I switched the loudmouth to the magnaflow.

If I were you I wouldn't do the headers unless you are
planning on doing heads too. They won't make that
much improvement in the seat of the pants.

There is a thread on it... check this and see if this helps. This is the one for the 1 7/8s headers.

According to their site they still sell "off-road" headers and Y-pipes.

yea ell the old SLP LTs and ORy blow fkn chunks..the clearance sucks, the headers hang/sit way to low to the damn ground and the ORy sits way to low to the damn ground...and the LDMTH1 exhaust has to be positioned just right or it hits the gdamn driveshaft...PITA...get some ls1 block hugger style headers and pick your exhaust for clearance as well...

If you buy the old design you will have some troubles, follow the install directions that come with them and you will be fine. I did mine on a lift, first time installing headers and they are the first design and it took us about 4 hours.
If you but the new design they are suposed to be easier to install by far. (They claim the trans doesnt need shifted side to side like the 1st design) The new design also comes with cats and a y pipe. you would be better off getting some different headers if you are not buying them used, real cheap.
